When Farhan Akhtar revealed mom Honey Irani once told him to live with Javed Akhtar for THIS habit; 'The first time I felt horrible...'

As a lifestyle expert, I find Farhan Akhtar‘s openness and transparency about his personal struggles to be incredibly commendable. His candid discussions about growing up with divorced parents, battling alcoholism, and navigating his own separation from Adhuna Bhabani, all while being a parent himself, paint a vivid picture of resilience and growth.

Farhan Akhtar has consistently been open about his life experiences, offering glimpses into both his personal and professional odysseys. He’s candidly discussed the emotional distress he endured in the wake of his parents’ split. In a fresh dialogue with Faye D’Souza for her YouTube channel, Farhan reflected on the hurdles his mother encountered during his upbringing and his battle with alcohol addiction. Moreover, he mentioned that it was the first time he felt profoundly bad, and his mother asked him to leave and reside with Javed Akhtar. He disclosed feeling a strong sense of disappointment as a son when his mother discovered his struggle with substance abuse.

In conversation about the difficulties Honey encountered while bringing up both him and Zoya, Farhan disclosed that she was juggling work and single-handedly raising her children. He pondered back then that under such circumstances, an extra source of stress from one of the kids would have been unbearable. Farhan confessed to his alcohol consumption and other problematic actions, and when he realized how negatively these affected her, it pushed her to her limit.

Eventually, Honey shared with him, “I’ve given it my all, but I just can’t continue like this. Perhaps you could stay with your father for a while.” This revelation left Farhan feeling deeply remorseful for his shortcomings as a son and believing that she didn’t deserve the anguish she was experiencing.

Despite not intentionally mistreating his mother, he acknowledged that his actions were still causing unnecessary stress for her, a burden she couldn’t bear at the moment. This disturbing discovery inspired him to take action, starting work, and bring about a more favorable transformation in their relationship.

In the very same interview, Farhan revealed that his upbringing amidst divorced parents played a significant role in shaping his decision to separate from Adhuna Bhabani, his ex-wife. As the director of Don 3, he recognized the potential effects of this separation on their daughters, Shakya and Akira. He openly spoke about the difficulties, given that he had personally experienced the aftermath of his parents’ divorce in his childhood and comprehended the emotions associated with it. Farhan conveyed a heartfelt wish to spare his children from enduring the same hardships.

He explained that he and Adhuna aimed to address their daughters openly and honestly, emphasizing that their divorce had nothing to do with them or anything they had done. Farhan added that their decision to separate was a choice made between two adults, who, as friends, decided it was the best course of action. He acknowledged that while this was the best they could do, it was something he would have to live with for the rest of his life.

During the last installment of Angry Young Men, Farhan Akhtar disclosed that he harbored intense feelings of anger and betrayal towards his father upon their separation. Looking back on those difficult times, he acknowledged that he went through common emotions that many children may encounter during their growth process.

As an ardent admirer speaking in my own voice, I’d say: After the separation, I found myself navigating through a challenging phase, one that required time to accept my father’s new union and adapt to the transformed family dynamics. Remarkably, Shabana Azmi played a pivotal role in re-establishing a sense of familiarity in our household once more.

After the separation, Zoya resided with their mother, Honey Irani, along with her brother, investing more of their time together. Despite this, she admitted that it took some time to restore a typical bond with their father. She attributed Shabana for facilitating that sense of harmony.
