As a long-time admirer of Bollywood, I must confess that Hrithik Roshan’s performance in “Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon” has always been a source of amusement for me. While it may not have been his finest hour, his self-deprecating humor about the role during an interview with Film Companion made it even more endearing.
Over time, the film “Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon,” starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, and Abhishek Bachchan, has turned into a secret indulgence for numerous Bollywood enthusiasts. Despite its over-the-top characters, it’s not uncommon for people to reminisce about it. In an earlier interview, the actor from “War 2” playfully poked fun at his own acting in this movie.
During an interview with Film Companion in 2020, Hrithik Roshan was questioned about his most challenging role to date and if he employed a specific method to portray that character. In his amusing answer, the actor confessed that Sooraj Barjatya’s “Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon” was his toughest role and that he played it quite poorly.
He said, “I was in a movie titled Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. I portrayed a character who was extremely cheerful and boisterous… (The actor demonstrated his character’s mannerisms), but it doesn’t feel quite authentic for me, even when I really tried to make it so.” He went on to amusingly mimic his character from the film again.
The athlete-actor humorously self-deprecated, jokingly admitting that he had given his utmost effort in the movie. He hinted at the film’s quality, asking rhetorically, “Haven’t you watched it…the vibe?” His witty comments left the audience in stitches.
Under the guidance of Sooraj Barjatya, the movie “Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon” was unveiled in 2003. Upon its premiere, the film received unfavorable critiques from critics. In a conversation with Shardul on Uncensored, Rajeev Masand discussed his negative review and disclosed that some of the movie’s actors were dissatisfied with his critique. He specifically pointed out that Kareena Kapoor remained silent, but Hrithik Roshan and the director showed some disappointment.
MPKD is essentially a modern reinterpretation of the 1976 movie titled “Chitchor,” where Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab, and Vijayendra Ghatge initially played the primary characters.
Regarding his professional commitments, Hrithik Roshan is currently immersed in the production of Ayan Mukerji’s sequel to War, titled War 2. He is collaborating with Jr NTR and Kiara Advani on this project. Recently, TopMob broke the news that a significant portion of the film has already been filmed, and Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR are getting ready to start shooting the finale of War 2 from November 2024.
