As a seasoned observer of Bollywood and its enchanting stars, I must say that Kajol’s career trajectory is nothing short of remarkable. Her ability to choose roles that not only resonate with her but also captivate audiences is truly commendable.
Kajol is one of the most respected actresses in the film industry. Whether it’s Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, or Salman Khan, she enjoys a strong bond with her fellow actors from the same era. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to revisit when the star of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai explained why she declined the role in 3 Idiots.
On the well-known talk show, Aap Ki Adalat, hosted by Rajat Sharma, Kajol was asked about her decision to turn down several blockbuster films, including 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan. In response, she disclosed that she had agreed to play R Madhavan’s role, but the producers were hesitant about giving her Kareena Kapoor Khan’s part instead. “I told them I would do Madhavan’s role, but they said no. They said that heroine’s role was meant for someone else,” explained Kajol.
In response to the actress’ statement, “You know what? Out of the three Idiots, one could have been a girl,” he responded with a firm ‘No!’ The host playfully suggested that she was about to alter the entire narrative, as Kareena Kapoor Khan portrayed the female lead opposite Aamir Khan in the immensely successful 3 Idiots directed by Rajkumar Hirani. This film was groundbreaking, being the first Indian movie to earn over Rs 200 crore domestically at the box office.
The actress from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge shared the reasons behind her refusal of certain films starring Shah Rukh Khan. In relation to Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se, she cited scheduling conflicts, and for Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Paagal Hai, Kajol stated that the role was not significant enough.
In terms of her professional life, Kajol recently appeared in Salaam Venky, which was directed by Revathy. Upcoming projects for the actress include Maharagni, a large-scale action film where she takes the leading role. Additionally, Do Patti is another movie on her list. This production features Kriti Sanon as a co-lead, and it’s scheduled to be released directly on Netflix.
