As an ardent admirer of Bollywood, I can confidently say that my respect for Salman Khan has grown exponentially after learning about his unwavering commitment to his creative instincts and generous nature. His story with Pankaj Parashar during the making of “Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge” is nothing short of inspiring.
Salman Khan, who is known as the son of well-respected screenwriter Salim Khan, has frequently expressed his ambition to become a scriptwriter himself. Not too long ago, Pankaj Parashar – the director who worked with Salman in the 2002 movie “Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge” – reminisced about an instance where Salman modified a scene in the film and refused to ad-lib it. He asserted that he was proud of being Salim Khan’s son and believed his alteration was correct. Despite the director’s attempts to convince him otherwise on three separate occasions, Salman stood firm with his creative convictions.
Pankaj Parashar sat down for an interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel and recalled his fun experience working with Salman Khan in Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge co-starring Dia Mirza. Rumi Jaffery and Salman Khan wrote the script for the film and the actor wanted Pankaj to direct it.
Initially, the filmmaker wasn’t sold on the movie plot when Khan explained it to him. But later, Rumi managed to convince him by emphasizing the unique chance to collaborate with a renowned star like Khan, and suggesting they could adjust the script afterwards.
It was inquired of Parashar whether Salman Khan truly possessed a tempestuous character, as some people assert, but the director swiftly refuted this claim. He reminisced about an amusing instance when the actor modified a scene for their movie, which failed to please the director, resulting in an intriguing predicament.
The filmmaker advised, “You must attempt to persuade Salman on at least three occasions before he agrees. He won’t listen the first time around. He mentioned, ‘I am Salim sahab’s son, and I already know this.’ However, he was eventually convinced after being approached three times.
Beyond his strong conviction in his creative intuition, Pankaj shared that Khan displayed a lively and kindhearted character as well. He mentioned that the Dabangg star actually paid him triple the amount, even though he was willing to work for only one-third of it. Furthermore, Salman went as far as presenting expensive watches to the entire cast of the movie.
Speaking about his friendship with the famous actor, the filmmaker revealed an interesting incident. He had requested the star to arrive on set at 7 a.m., and surprisingly, Khan showed up ahead of schedule that day. On one occasion, however, the actor was running late. In response, the director of ChalBaaz gestured towards his watch, prompting Salman to toss it aside. Later, he presented the director with a Rolex watch, explaining that he had discarded the previous one to give him the new one.
In a nutshell, Pankaj Parashar expressed that working alongside Salman Khan on Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge was among his most enjoyable filming moments, and Salman himself concurred with this sentiment.
