As an ardent fan of the legendary Shatrughan Sinha, I find myself deeply moved by his unwavering commitment to health and wellness, particularly his crusade against tobacco and smoking. The man’s life experiences, as he so eloquently shared with us, are a testament to the power of reflection and personal growth.
The former actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha, has been open about his strong opposition to tobacco use and smoking. Lately, he spoke on this topic and shared an incident where he encountered Shah Rukh Khan who was noticeably out of breath following a stage performance. Yet, Sinha emphatically stated that it wasn’t due to age-related problems but rather the result of his smoking habit.
During a recent chat with Lehren Retro, Shatrughan Sinha shared an intriguing story about superstar Shah Rukh Khan. He reminisced about a time when he noticed SRK having difficulty catching his breath following a stage show.
He recalled, “Shah Rukh was dancing on stage, and after the performance, he looked at me and said, ‘Sorry, sir. I think age is catching up to me.’ I immediately responded, ‘It’s not the age; it’s smoking.'” After sharing the incident, Sinha explained how it’s important to quit smoking and tobacco.
To underscore the importance of the topic, the Shaan actor openly disclosed a personal anecdote connected to it. He confessed that during the early stages of his career, he was swayed by the style of the legendary Raj Kapoor and took up smoking. Moreover, he acknowledged that in his movies, as well as his close friend and fellow superstar, Rajinikanth, had also endorsed this habit.
Later, Sinha pondered over his habit on an Anti-Tobacco Day, leading him to question its necessity. This introspection sparked a decision for him to stop smoking, which he accomplished without resorting to any additional aid.
During our chat, he expressed admiration for those who managed to give up smoking, including Amitabh Bachchan. He even shared that we both made a commitment to stop smoking together. However, while he was able to quit on the spot, I couldn’t at that moment in time. Shashi Kapoor is another example of someone who quit smoking, demonstrating that there are many individuals like this.
Interestingly, on his birthday celebration in November 2024, Shah Rukh Khan – a celebrity who has openly talked about his smoking struggles – declared that he had stopped smoking. During the event, he expressed that while he no longer smokes, he still experiences shortness of breath. He believed this would improve after quitting, but remained hopeful that his breathing issues would soon resolve.
