In an interview with Humans of Bombay, actress Priyamani spoke candidly about working alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the films Jawan and Chennai Express. Many aspire to act opposite Bollywood’s leading man, but Priyamani had the unique experience of developing a close relationship with him both professionally and personally. A remarkable instance during the filming of Jawan left her feeling both flattered and speechless—it all stemmed from Shah Rukh referring to her as his “teacher.”
During the shoot for Jawan, Priyamani reminisced about a special day when Shah Rukh stopped production and told the director, “This girl is my teacher—she’s going to stand right in front of me.” He then requested that she remain beside him for dance cues. Although she was initially embarrassed, she also felt incredibly happy.
Their bond made headlines even before their collaboration on Chennai Express’ hit song 1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor. Contrary to popular belief, Priyamani clarified that she didn’t teach SRK how to dance; instead, she helped him with some South Indian dance steps. She admired his determination to learn, as he would practice all night after long shooting hours, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., to master his moves.
Priyamani fondly recalled less serious moments like playing Kaun Banega Crorepati on SRK’s iPad and winning a Rs. 100 note from him. While she no longer possesses the note, the memory remains dear to her heart.
Another cherished moment occurred when Shah Rukh invited her to dine in his luxurious vanity van. She described the space as cozy and inviting, adorned with family photos and tasteful decorations. She was struck by his warmth and hospitality.
With a career that spans over two decades, Priyamani has made a significant impact across various film industries through her performances in Paruthiveeran, Thirakkatha, Chaarulatha, and the popular web series The Family Man.
