As a long-time Marvel fan who has grown up with these characters, the anticipation for the return of the Avengers has been palpable since the events of Endgame. The recent hints from Nate Moore and Kevin Feige about the team’s status have only fueled my excitement. I remember watching the first Iron Man movie back in 2008 and never imagining that we would eventually see a team-up of this magnitude on the big screen.
If you follow the Marvel movies from Phases One through Three in sequence, you’ll notice that the Avengers are usually present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, since the beginning of the Multiverse Saga (Phase Four), it seems like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have been mostly absent. I’ve been curious about their current status following the events of Endgame, and now a producer for the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World” is offering some clues about what’s happening with the team.
What Did The Captain America 4 Producer Have To Say About The Avengers?
At this moment, there are numerous unanswered questions surrounding the main superhero group in the Marvel Cinematic Universe prior to their upcoming next two films. Immediately, however, audiences can look forward to the return of Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who is now carrying the title of Captain America. It’s clear that the film will primarily focus on Sam’s ongoing challenges as the “star-spangled man with a plan.” Additionally, as Nate Moore, Executive Producer of Brave New World, suggested to Empire, the discussion will also involve Sam’s previous team, making it an integral part of the narrative.
In my opinion, an Avengers team performs optimally under the leadership of Captain America. This film, in turn, opens up opportunities for discussing questions like “Where are the Avengers currently located?” or “What exactly does it mean to be an Avenger?” Furthermore, it raises intrigue about whether Sam is indeed the ideal candidate to take charge of them.
More on Captain America: Brave New World
To be frank, I wasn’t exactly thrilled about Captain America: Brave New World initially. However, the latest trailer has managed to flip my perspective. Here’s why it got me excited:
In 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”, spectators witnessed the united do-gooders (alongside their companions) for the last time, where they stood strong against Thanos and his troops in a final confrontation. The team triumphed, but at a heavy price. By the conclusion of their battle with the Mad Titan, two original members – Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) – had lost their lives. Moreover, Steve Rogers (the Original Captain America) found his desired ending as he journeyed to an alternate reality to spend a peaceful life with Peggy Carter. To add to this, the team’s headquarters in upstate New York was left in ruins after the iconic fight at the end of the movie.
It’s no secret that the team seems to be in a precarious situation, and I can hardly wait to see how “Brave New World” unfolds their role within the MCU. However, it’s important to remember that Nate Moore’s perspective isn’t the only clue given by Marvel Studios about the team’s status over the past few years.
Kevin Feige Spoke To Us About The State Of The Avengers
In the past, TopMob had a chat with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about everything related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). During this discussion, our very own Sean O’Connell asked the film producer for insights on the current status of the MCU team. Feige’s responses hinted at some major Avengers-related mysteries being addressed in upcoming movies. Among these unanswered questions were whether there is a primary team and if so, who is leading and financing this group. Additionally, Feige hinted that the concept of what qualifies someone to be an Avenger would be further explored.
At CinemaCon for Captain America 4, there were hints that the Avengers might play a secondary role in the storyline. According to accounts from the April expo, U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross is encouraging Sam Wilson to revive the legendary team of superheroes, which appears to catch him off-guard.
The future for this team isn’t entirely clear, but they’re bound to play a crucial role in forthcoming Marvel films. Two upcoming movies – Avengers: Doomsday slated for 2026 and Secret Wars set for 2027 – will find the team confronting a colossal new adversary. That’s right, Doctor Doom, reprised by Robert Downey Jr, will be the one to challenge them. Fingers crossed that whoever assembles as a team can handle the challenge, and we’ll see if Sam Wilson can step up as their leader.
In the upcoming movie “Captain America: Brave New World,” set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025, we’ll have a chance to assess Sam’s leadership abilities. Until then, you can catch up by streaming the first three Captain America films and all four Avengers movies with a Disney+ subscription.
