Back in January 2020, I was captivated by the debut of “1000-lb Sisters” on TLC. This reality show revolved around two extraordinary ladies from Kentucky – Amy and Tammy Slaton. Their goal, as the title hinted, was to transform their lives with bariatric surgery and say goodbye to soda forever. Over six seasons so far, I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster alongside them, witnessing their struggles as they tackled a challenging path filled with hurdles. From Amy’s high-risk pregnancy post-surgery to Tammy’s brush with death due to lung failure, their journey has been nothing short of inspiring and eye-opening.
Despite their challenges, these sisters found solace in the unwavering support system provided by their siblings – Amanda Halterman, a fan favorite for her courageous stance against Tammy, Misty Wentworth, and Chris Combs. As each season of “1000-lb Sisters” progresses, the influence of these three individuals on the reality show grows stronger. Particularly noteworthy is Chris Combs, who was so moved by Amy and Tammy’s weight loss journeys that he decided to embark on his own transformation.
Combs’ narrative is truly inspiring. Initially, when he encountered Dr. Eric Smith, he was grappling with a weight of 450 pounds and harbored concerns about not being around for his spouse Brittany, children, or grandchildren. Despite initially finding it challenging to stick to his doctor’s plan, Combs ultimately qualified for bariatric surgery – a milestone he had been striving towards for over ten years. Following an amazing transformation and eagerly awaited body-contouring surgery, Combs is now thriving as he enjoys time with his family and followers.
He’s enjoying life after skin removal
Following his bariatric operation in 2022, Chris Combs shed approximately 150 pounds rather swiftly. Yet, such significant weight loss often results in excess skin, causing him considerable inconvenience when engaging in exercise or even basic movements. As he put it on “1000-lb Sisters” (via TLC), he felt like a flying squirrel. Notwithstanding, Dr. Eric Smith insisted that he lose an extra 50 pounds prior to authorizing him for a surgical procedure to remove the excess skin.
Combs diligently worked to lose the remaining weight, accomplishing a 5K run, conquering an obstacle course, and even exploring London with his siblings. In the year 2024, viewers of “1000-lb Sisters” had the chance to see him ultimately gain approval and undergo a skin removal procedure in Season 6’s Episode 10 titled “Nothing Is Impassable”.
In the episode (on TLC), he expressed, “This trip I chose to embark upon and persist in is the finest one I’ve ever undertaken. All my past efforts have culminated in success. However, what truly makes it extraordinary is being able to match pace with my grandkids, keeping up with my spouse, and contributing positively to their lives, potentially adding 15 to 20 years to mine. That’s the cherry on top!” Indeed, Combs is living this reality, as evidenced by his Instagram posts filled with joyful moments spent with his grandchildren.
He’s connecting with 1000-lb Sisters fans
As a devoted fan, I must say that while Chris Combs wasn’t initially a prominent figure in “1000-lb Sisters,” his expanded screen time in recent seasons has been a delight for many viewers like myself. We appreciate his sunny disposition and witty humor, but it’s his unwavering care for his four sisters that truly captivates us.
In times of struggle, such as Amy Slaton’s emotional divorce from Michael Halterman, Chris was a steadfast presence. And when Tammy found herself at odds with Amanda Halterman, Chris stepped up to offer her a safe haven – a move that has made her a popular figure on social media today.
Combs appreciates his fans’ admiration and often showcases his availability on Cameo, a platform where celebrities offer customized video messages to their supporters. For a fee of $50, Combs is ready to create videos for various occasions such as birthdays, holidays, encouragement, roasts, and more. He consistently receives high praise on Cameo, with the majority of clients expressing great satisfaction with the personalized messages he provides them.
Furthermore, Chris Combs is making his debut at fan conventions, starting with Vette City Con – a day dedicated to horror and pop culture. This will be his first appearance, and the convention’s announcement about his participation generated lots of enthusiasm. One fan expressed their excitement in a comment, stating, “In my view, Chris is like a ray of sunshine amidst the drama.” Another fan added, “He truly embodies the epitome of a gentleman. He takes good care of his family and beyond.
