Tracking down the elusive Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter World is undeniably one of the toughest research missions due to its rarity. The Grand Escunite is a sizable creature, but it can only be found in a handful of water bodies within a specific region. Spotting it isn’t easy, as you need to know exactly where to look.
Our Monster Hunter Wilds Grand Escunite handbook provides information on the location of the enormous fish, as well as the type of bait most likely to entice it for capture.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Grand Escunite location
The Grand Escunites inhabit regions known as the Scarlet Forest, specifically areas with substantial bodies of water. You can locate these creatures in Areas 12, 17, and 8, although my personal observations suggest that they are most frequently found in Area 17. While it’s possible to encounter a Grand Escunite at any time during the day or night, or throughout the year, their numbers seem to increase during the season of abundance. Therefore, it may be advantageous to adjust the season for better sightings. Additionally, these creatures are distinguished by their shimmering fins, making them more visible during darker hours.
You won’t find Grand Escunite marked on the map, so you’ll need to explore and discover it yourself. If fishing hasn’t been successful this time, consider leaving the area for now or starting a new quest and then returning, as this may trigger an environmental reset.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How to catch Grand Escunite
As a fishing enthusiast, I must admit that there’s a slim chance you might snag a Grand Escunite with your regular lure. However, the odds significantly increase if you use the Tentacle Jig – a lure you can acquire after completing some of Kanya’s fishing quests. She hands over the Tentacle Jig bait when you embark on the Razzle Dazzle adventure.
As a keen angler, I’d advise positioning your fishing line as near to the grand Escunite as possible. Give the lure a subtle wobble to pique its curiosity. Be prepared for multiple attempts though, because unlike the Gravid Bowfin, this fish isn’t easily tempted and may choose to ignore you, even with the perfect bait.
