- Where’s Potato is a new entry in the prop hunt genre
- It sees you playing either as a potato or the seekers trying to find it
- Avoid being burned by the potato, or evade the seekers long enough to win
It appears that recently, the prop hunt genre has been gaining a lot of popularity. Since its initial appearance in the past, the thrill of figuring out where someone is hidden within a crowded environment, as they blend into the scenery, seems to be quite captivating. And the latest offering by developer gamesbynav aims to capitalize on this trend with Where’s Potato?, now available on Android!
In simpler terms, “Where’s Potato?” is a fun 3D game where you play as the potato character who needs to hide in a suburban house while avoiding seeker characters. However, if you eat hot chili peppers, the potato can retaliate and burn three of the seekers, winning the game. So, it’s more about hiding, strategizing, and using your powers wisely rather than just a straightforward hunt.
Indeed, while it may not win any grand awards, Where’s Potato? seems like a commendable solo project from a novice developer. However, there are several key factors that might prevent it from standing out distinctly.
Scouting for potatoes
One possible reason why Where’s Potato? may not grab attention could be that the genre of prop hunt is predominantly well-liked on social gaming platforms, such as Minecraft, or served as a sub-mode in other games. It seems unlikely to me that it would succeed as a standalone download.
Although I believe it’s an admirable attempt, it’s worth noting that successfully launching a multiplayer game is challenging even for seasoned developers. Given this perspective, I plan to closely watch the progress of gamesbynav and anticipate his future projects.
