The Trump administration is not only targeting late-night TV shows, but they’ve also started focusing on daytime programs.
The White House issued a firm response following co-host Joy Behar’s comment that President Trump is envious of former President Barack Obama.
On Wednesday’s episode of ABC’s daytime talk show, Behar expressed her thoughts while the panel (which included Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin) debated Trump’s recent accusations against his predecessor. Earlier at a press conference, to divert attention from questions about the Jeffrey Epstein files, Trump had accused Obama of treason and claimed that his administration tried to steal both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
In reply, the spokesperson for Obama, Patrick Rodenbush, labeled Trump’s assertions as “extraordinary,” “strange” and a “feeble effort to divert attention.
On The View, Behar also shared her opinions. “Firstly, who attempted to overthrow the government on January 6th? Wasn’t that Obama?” she said, recalling the violent insurrection at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, which was primarily instigated by supporters of then-President Trump.
He’s incredibly envious of Obama, as Obama embodies qualities that he lacks: physical fitness, intelligence, good looks, marital bliss, and an exceptional singing talent, particularly in performing Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together.’ Trump can’t stomach this, and it’s causing him distress.”
Behar further noted.
White House representative Taylor Rogers responded to Joy Behar from The View in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “Joy Behar exhibits signs of an extreme Trump Criticism Syndrome, making her a largely irrelevant figure. It’s not surprising that The View experienced record-low ratings last year. Perhaps she should consider addressing her own envy towards President Trump’s unprecedented popularity before the show faces cancellation.
For the past week, Donald Trump has been launching critiques at late-night TV hosts following the announcement that Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” will conclude in May 2026. CBS, a company owned by Paramount Global, cited financial reasons due to a diminishing traditional television market for the cancellation. However, there are also rumors suggesting that this decision might be linked to a $16 million settlement that Paramount agreed to pay Trump after he sued over Kamala Harris’ interview on “60 Minutes”. Previous reports from THR suggest that Paramount fears this lawsuit could jeopardize Skydance’s plan to acquire the company, which is under review by the FCC during the Trump administration. Colbert has publicly criticized the settlement on his CBS program.
After hearing the news, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform with obvious satisfaction about the cancellation of The Late Show, saying, “I’m thrilled that Colbert lost his job. His abilities were no match for his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next in line. Apparently, he has even less talent than Colbert!
Later, Colbert retorted to the president by stating on his show, “Sir, how audacious of you! Could an ordinary individual craft such a satirical and witty remark as this? Go take a hike, if that’s what you’re good for.
