White Lotus Season 4: Will It Skip Ski Resorts This Time?

In the television lineup of 2025, Season 3 of HBO’s “The White Lotus” has proven to be a massive success and is nearing its conclusion with a 90-minute finale. As I eagerly anticipate the storyline for Season 4, it’s worth pondering where this popular series will be set next. The fictional luxury resort chain, “The White Lotus,” has evolved into a character within the show, and each season has been filmed at a different location, starting in Hawaii, then Sicily, and most recently in Thailand. Since Mike White’s show has been renewed for another season, speculation swirls about the upcoming setting. To satiate our curiosity, let’s delve into some potential locations for Season 4.

Chances Are, It’ll Be Filmed At A Four Seasons

As a film enthusiast, I’ve noticed an intriguing connection between Four Seasons resorts and HBO’s “The White Lotus” across all three seasons – a connection that seems to deepen with each installment. Given this pattern, it’s reasonable to anticipate the same collaboration for Season 4. It appears both the show and the hotel chain have found a mutually beneficial arrangement, with Four Seasons leveraging the TV magic to boost their business. In fact, they offer immersive experiences that blend television enchantment with top-tier hospitality – an exciting prospect indeed! However, let’s hope the immersion doesn’t veer too close to reality, as we all know, dark events tend to unfold for guests and staff in this captivating series.

If this mutual beneficial partnership persists, it’s likely that Season 4 will take place at one of the Four Seasons resorts, rather than a standard city hotel. The majority of the main events could unfold right on the resort property, given its exotic locations. With over 20 choices worldwide, ranging from the Seychelles to Costa Rica, Mexico, and Bahrain, among others, the show’s producers have plenty of options to choose from. However, by considering certain hints and patterns, we can make educated predictions about where Season 4 might be set.

It Probably Won’t Be At A Ski Resort

Online, enthusiasts of the series have suggested a change of setting for the show to a chilly location such as a ski resort, with the Four Seasons offering several possibilities. However, according to one of The White Lotus’ producers, Dave Bernad, such a shift seems improbable.

In an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Bernad mentioned that showrunner/creator/writer Mike White dislikes cold weather, suggesting that it’s unlikely there will be a cold-weather season for the show. This effectively squashes any speculation about filming in Norway and likely excludes winter ski resorts from the list of potential locations for the series.

There Likely Shall Be Tax Credits

Back in those days, I’d often find myself reminiscing about Norway, particularly since whispers suggested that “The White Lotus” was considering it as a potential location for Season 4, even hinting at generous tax incentives for filming there. However, just recently, a Norwegian newspaper seemed to pour cold water on the speculation when they reported that Mike White and his team had opted against shooting in Norway.

As Bernad mentioned, one factor behind filming Season 2 in Italy instead of the South of France was to take advantage of tax incentives. Initially, they had planned on another location, but HBO encouraged them to explore the Four Seasons in Taormina, Sicily. Impressed by the site, they decided to go with Italy, which also offered attractive tax credits. It’s likely that HBO will pursue a similar financial arrangement for Season 4; it’s simply standard practice in the industry.

It Could Be In A New Part Of The World, Like The Caribbean

The possibilities for “The White Lotus” remain abundant, with over a dozen potential destinations spanning from the Caribbean to Costa Rica, Mexico, coastal Africa, or potentially even a return to Europe or the U.S. for Season 4. Among these choices, the Caribbean appears particularly suitable due to its tropical climate, beachside setting – mirroring previous seasons – exotica, and self-contained nature, all of which contribute to the unique charm of the series.

In his conversation with Bill Simmons, Dave Bernad noted that before each season, White and the production team decide on the themes they wish to delve into, which influences their choice of filming locations. For instance, the decision to set Season 3 in Thailand stemmed from White’s desire to investigate Eastern religions, a topic he had been interested in throughout that season. Naturally, we can’t predict the themes for Season 4 at this time, so it leaves open various possibilities for filming.

Will They Return To Europe?

In my perspective as a movie enthusiast, it seems plausible that future installments might delve into unexplored territories, perhaps the enchanting Caribbean, the rich culture of the Middle East, or the vibrant landscapes of Africa. After all, each preceding film has showcased diverse settings, so continuing this trend by introducing a completely new location feels fitting. However, it’s important to note that such geographical shifts may not necessarily be in the cards.

In February, following the airing of Season 3, Francesca Orsi – HBO’s executive responsible for programming on the cable channel – suggested that the show could potentially return to Europe. She mentioned this to Deadline by saying, “I can’t reveal our exact destination, but it’s likely we’ll be heading somewhere in Europe.” She then clarified, “There are certain countries on the map that we’ve discussed, but no decisions have been made until we conduct location scouting.

Where This All Leaves Us

At this stage, it’s uncertain whether they’ll choose to collaborate with Four Seasons for Season 4. Until an official announcement is made or we receive more reliable information, all possibilities remain open. However, I’m willing to take a few educated guesses. It could be the South of France, specifically at the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the Riviera, or perhaps the Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor.

France might be included in the series due to Bernad’s initial plan for Season 2, as he mentioned. Spain could be part of it too, since that was where Bernad brought up the idea during their trip in Tenerife, Canary Islands, when Mike White first presented his concept to Bernad.

It appears that both contenders seem highly plausible, but much like the series, we can expect some unexpected turns and surprises as production for Season 4 of “The White Lotus” commences. In the meantime, if you haven’t yet kept up with Season 3, there’s still a chance to catch up on Max.
