Why Deadpool’s Controversial Joke About A Real Disney Death Made Everyone Cringe

Why Deadpool's Controversial Joke About A Real Disney Death Made Everyone Cringe

As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of experience under my belt, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent antics of Disney and Deadpool. It seems that the line between entertainment and real-life legal battles has become blurred in this case, and it’s left me feeling uneasy.

As a fan, it might seem like Disney could unintentionally end my life if I subscribe to their streaming service, but during a performance at Disneyland Anaheim, the actor portraying Deadpool humorously suggested otherwise – or so it seems!

@gothgirl_doesdisney I dont think the Disney execs are gonna like that joke, Deadpool 🥴 . . . #fy #fypage #foryoupage #foryou #disney #disneyland #deadpool #disneyplus #raglanroad ♬ original sound – Kaitie

On TikTok, user @gothgirl_doesdisney shared a popular video featuring two actors portraying Deadpool and Wolverine, evidently aiming to cash in on the popularity of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the latest movie bringing together these iconic characters. In this skit during “Story Time with Deadpool,” the character makes a quip that “Cinderpool was tardy at the major battle because he had to go through every last page of the terms and conditions when he subscribed to Disney+.”

In simpler terms, this passage is explaining an unusual legal situation. Jeffrey Piccolo, a man who lost his wife Kanokporn Tangsuan due to an allergy reaction from a meal, tried to sue Disney (House of Mouse) for her wrongful death. However, because he had agreed to the terms and conditions of Disney+ in 2019, he was told that he couldn’t take legal action against Disney over his wife’s passing. This is an astonishing turn of events.

Apart from admitting that Jeffrey Piccolo consented not to sue Disney when he joined Disney+ in 2019 to watch “WandaVision”, they also claimed he agreed to this condition when purchasing Epcot tickets on their official website, as stated in a CNN report. However, Piccolo’s lawyer Brian Denney found the assertion laughable, stating that Disney is attempting to prevent all of its 150 million Disney+ subscribers from ever bringing a wrongful death case against them in court, even if the case has no connection to the streaming service.

After initially attempting to resolve the issue through arbitration, Disney announced they would instead take Piccolo to court. In a statement to the media, Josh D’Amato, chairman of Disney Experiences, expressed that human concerns outweighed all other factors. Given the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this case, he felt it necessary to approach the situation with sensitivity and swiftness in order to provide resolution for the grieving family. As a result, Disney decided to relinquish their right to arbitration and move forward with the legal proceedings in court.

The Internet doesn’t think Deadpool’s Disney+ joke was that funny

On platform X (previously known as Twitter), both Disney enthusiasts and Deadpool fans find this joke distasteful. As user @MaidArchonRoses expressed, “I dislike this because it’s the kind of joke a Disney Deadpool could make, but the joke itself was created due to someone’s death, and it’s their attempt to make light of a tragic situation.” Similarly, @GalMarielena commented, “I understand Deadpool’s humor, but Disney’s lawyers were trying to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit based on terms and conditions. This joke is in poor taste given the recent events.”

User @JUSTINtime4aLAF pondered if Disney executives might have engineered the Deadpool humor: “This humor seems to be crafted by Disney, mocking their attempts to escape a lawsuit due to a tragic accident at their park. It’s almost as if they’re laughing off their role in someone’s death and trying to avoid accountability. It’s rather unsettling.” User @burntwaffl3s concurred, stating, “Someone has passed away, yet Disney is using a light-hearted character to downplay their own reckless policies as ‘crazy,’ instead of acknowledging the real-world consequences. It’s not funny at all, just distasteful and premature.” Regardless of whether or not Disney had the character make this joke, there’s no denying that it was in poor taste and unsuitable for laughter.
