Imran Khan’s first movie, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved romantic comedies. In a recent chat on Aamir Khan’s YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, Imran and director Abbas Tyrewala reminisced about the film and the sequel that never materialized. During their discussion, they shared that Aamir Khan courageously declined the proposition of a second installment.
Abbas mentioned that following the movie’s premiere, he suggested a sequel to Aamir Khan, who was the producer at the time. Imran added that fans often inquire about the sequel’s release date. In jest, Abbas admitted that he gets asked this question almost every day on Instagram.
Every day on Instagram, Abbas Tyrewala shares that he’s receiving ideas for a sequel. He mentioned that just after the release of “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,” he proposed a sequel concept to Aamir Khan.
As per Abbas, the storyline would revolve around the near-separation of characters Jai and Aditi (portrayed by Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza). He elaborated that the sequel commences with a drunken Jai encountering Meghna, his past love interest, at a party.
According to Abbas Tyrewala, Aamir Khan’s response to his sequel concept was clear and decisive, with Aamir stating, “Don’t mention this film ever again. I don’t want to discuss anything related to a sequel if that’s the path you’re planning to take.
Despite their shared sentiment, Abbas and Aamir both expressed doubts about the feasibility of a sequel. Abbas put it simply, “I’m not sure how to revive fairy tales; they haven’t been successful lately.” Imran and Abbas also entertained the thought of reuniting the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na cast for a reunion, but ultimately decided against pursuing a sequel.
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na narrates the tale of two long-time friends, Jai and Aditi, whose unspoken feelings for one another become apparent as they pursue relationships with others, eventually discovering their true affection for each other in the process.
The movie starring Imran Khan, Genelia D’Souza, Prateik Patil, Manjari Fadnis, and Ayaz Khan, which came out in 2008, was an enormous success at the box office and has built a loyal fanbase since then. However, despite numerous demands for a second installment throughout the years, the director, Abbas Tyrewala, has given reasons as to why a sequel is unlikely to be produced.
