As a die-hard Final Fantasy fan who has been following the Remake series since its inception, I must say that the latest developments have me both excited and perplexed. On one hand, it’s heartening to know that Naoki Hamaguchi and the team are dedicated to delivering the third entry in the Remake trilogy without any distractions. However, the news about no episodic DLC for Rebirth left a bit of a void in my excitement for the upcoming PC port.
The remake of Final Fantasy VII was a massive success for Square Enix. Upon the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade, it came with an additional downloadable content (DLC) featuring the character Yuffie as a new party member.
It seems that contrary to what many fans anticipated, Square Enix doesn’t appear to be planning a PC version for the release of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Will FFVII Rebirth Get Episodic DLC?
In a recent conversation with Epic Games, the director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that there won’t be any additional DLC chapters for Rebirth. Despite their wish to create an episodic story as new DLC for the PC version, the team had to set this idea aside in order to focus on the third installment of the Remake trilogy, which they deemed their top priority.
Despite the current situation, Hamaguchi has affirmed that there could be additional Downloadable Content (DLC) for Rebirth, as long as there’s enough interest. He clarifies, “… should we receive passionate pleas from players following the launch about specific aspects, we would be open to considering them.
One Request for Mods
Despite no formal DLC planned for Rebirth, it’s worth noting that a vibrant modding community exists for the game. Many of these modifications focus on incorporating mature content into the game. Hamaguchi himself has reached out to these modders regarding their work.
Though our game doesn’t currently offer formal in-game modification support, we admire the ingenuity of our modding community. We encourage and appreciate their creative contributions. However, we kindly request that modifiers refrain from producing or installing any content that may be considered offensive or inappropriate.
With figures such as Jessie, Tifa, and Aerith provoking a flurry of fan artwork across the internet, it seems Hamaguchi’s appeal to the modding community may no longer be feasible. At any rate, fans are now aware of his stance towards them.
Rebirth for PC
It’s said that the upgraded edition of the PC version of Rebirth comes with advanced lighting effects, textures, and models. Interestingly, players have an option to buy a pair of games which includes the upgraded version of Final Fantasy VII Remake – specifically, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
Leaving behind the oppressive city of Midgar, Cloud and his companions embarked on an expedition traversing the entire globe. Fresh experiences lie ahead in a lively and extensive landscape – gallop swiftly over vast meadows on a Chocobo and delve into sprawling landscapes.
Considering a gap of four years since the launch of “Remake” and “Rebirth”, fans might be waiting until 2028 for the trilogy’s conclusion. However, with expansion plans seemingly on hold, there’s a possibility that Square Enix could bring forward the release date of the third game in the series?
Until new details are revealed, all fans can do at this point is speculate.
It’s anticipated that the PC version of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” will launch on January 23, 2025. For now, you can play “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” exclusively on PlayStation 5.
