Why Freakier Friday Box Office Predictions Remain Strong

It’s promising for Disney that the forecasted earnings for “Freakier Friday” remain robust, even though it’s set to debut only a few weeks following “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” The upcoming comedy features Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Julia Butters, who is said to portray X-Men’s Kitty Pryde in the MCU. The movie premieres on August 8, 2025, which is not too far from both Fantastic Four 2025 and Superman 2025 – two films that will likely continue ruling theaters when “Freakier Friday” hits screens. However, a recent analysis suggests that the film’s box office expectations stay optimistic.

What are the latest Freakier Friday box office projections?

Projected box office figures for the movie “Freaky Friday” indicate it could rake in around $45 million to $55 million during its first weekend, with potential total domestic earnings within the range of $115 million to $160 million across the U.S. market.

Based on a recent report by Box Office Theory dated July 18, I’m excited to share that the predictions for the upcoming Disney film have surpassed those of Weapons and Bad Guys 2, which are also set to release around the same time. This new movie is anticipated to rank alongside projects that capitalize on nostalgia, like Lilo & Stitch (2025), Mean Girls (2024), and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024). Interestingly, Box Office Theory also highlighted this as a “notable generational crossover” because it brings back Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis from the original 2003 film, Freaky Friday.

This second part is designed for female viewers too, and since there’s not much movie content for women during the summer, Freakier Friday could take advantage of a gap in the market by catering to this underrepresented group. At the same time, it provides a suitable option for families as well.

It’s worth mentioning that the projected earnings for the film in U.S. markets have been revised downwards from an initial range of $115 million to $190 million. The report indicates that a portion of this decrease might be attributed to Disney concentrating more on Fantastic Four, as it’s currently their major blockbuster. However, ticket sales for Freakier Friday are expected to increase once the marketing campaign for the Marvel reboot concludes.
