In the gripping new series on Prime Video titled “The Better Sister“, actresses Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks portray estranged siblings, Chloe and Nicky. Their reunion is prompted by the murder of Chloe’s husband, which could potentially unveil years-old damaging family secrets hidden within their past. As Elizabeth Banks shared with The Hollywood Reporter, she and Jessica Biel have often been told that they share a striking resemblance. “For years, I’ve been informed that we look alike, as if we could be sisters,” she stated during a recent panel at THR Presents. “It felt like fate that this project eventually came to fruition.
The ongoing series is an adaptation from Alafair Burke’s novel with the same title. Co-creators Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado were inspired to work on this source material due to its intriguing depiction of sibling rivalry and broader societal issues. As Milch puts it, “I found the concept of siblings receiving disparate versions of their parents particularly compelling. It seemed like a story that resonates widely, beyond just the murder mystery.
The production aimed to recruit both Biel and Banks for the series, intending to secure them as a combined cast. Biel showed interest – “I’m fond of mysteries, especially murder ones,” she said, having previously starred in the 2022 ‘Candy’ series focusing on Candy Montgomery – but she needed to sort out the practicalities, as the filming demanded an extended stay in New York during Justin Timberlake’s tour. However, the opportunity to delve into the intricate sister relationship, along with Elizabeth Banks, ultimately proved more appealing than the logistical challenges.
During the panel, Biel expressed admiration for Banks’ spontaneity and unpredictability, stating, “I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!” On set, she found herself often wondering, “What will she do next?” It’s something that she aspires to emulate in her own actions, recognizing it as an area for personal growth.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it like this: “Nicky aims to unsettle Chloe. It’s like poking her repeatedly. Essentially, he’s communicating that she’s not superior to him; he knows who she is and doubts the validity of her words. Throughout our complicated relationship, I’ve always held a moral high ground – she took my husband and son from me. I’ve chosen forgiveness, but I can’t forget.
