Why It’s Not A Huge Surprise An Intimacy Coordinator Was Not On Set During That Leaked It Ends With Us Scene, According To A Real-Life Person With The Job

Ever since its debut, the adaptation of the book “It Ends With Us” (available on Netflix) has been shrouded in a continuous flow of dramatic events. Initially, lead actress Blake Lively faced criticism for her interactions with journalists, but now the production is embroiled in numerous lawsuits involving both Lively and director/actor Justin Baldoni. In Lively’s lawsuit, she alleged that an intimacy coordinator was not utilized during filming, and her co-star made her uneasy while shooting specific scenes. This situation became even more intricate due to leaked unedited footage from the set, and an intimacy coordinator shares why it might not be shocking that one wasn’t present for that particular sequence.

In legal disputes brought forth by Justin Baldoni, both Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have been named as defendants. The most recent lawsuit alleges defamation. Baldoni’s legal team has escalated the situation by disclosing footage from the set of “It Ends With Us” that captures the two actors appearing affectionate during a bar scene. The discussions about filming love scenes have resurfaced, and intimacy coordinator Mia Schachter explained to THR why an intimacy coordinator was not necessary for this specific scene, stating:

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve come to realize that the primary roles for which an intimacy coordinator is engaged revolve around either simulated sexual acts or nudity. However, it’s essential to note that any other form of intimate interaction isn’t always necessitated or overseen by their presence. In scenarios such as this one, where there’s no hint of simulated sex, nudity, or even a scripted kiss, it’s quite common for the intimacy coordinator not to be involved. The script excerpt we reviewed clearly illustrates this point.

According to Per Schachter’s observations, she might only be referred to as ‘din’ in instances involving simulated sexual acts or nudity. Since the viral video featured Lively and Baldoni simply flirting at a bar, it doesn’t fall under the usual circumstances where her specific oversight would apply.

For several days now, the video featuring Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively has been thoroughly reviewed and analyzed by many. Some viewers believe this interaction suggests a genuine rapport between them, while others argue that Lively appears uneasy in response to his advances. In another part of the article, Mia Schachter discusses how the situation might have unfolded differently had an intimacy coordinator been involved, sharing her insights on the matter.

It’s not shocking to me that an intimacy coordinator wasn’t present for this particular scene in the movie, given that they would have set clear boundaries about what was and wasn’t allowed, such as specifying only certain types of touch were permissible, no kissing was involved, and no new elements were to be added without prior discussion.

In recent times, this particular profession has gained prominence within the entertainment industry, with some actors vouching for its effectiveness. Blake Lively, for instance, emphasized that it was “essential” for sensitive scenes to ensure a comfortable and secure atmosphere for all involved parties. The use of intimacy coordinators in the film “This Ends With Us” has been a subject of debate surrounding the production.

The legal matters concerning “It Ends With Us” have escalated, making the situation quite intense. It appears that lawyers on both sides are putting in a lot of effort, hinting at the possibility of a potential courtroom showdown between Lively and Baldoni.
