No matter your age, Pennywise possesses the ability to frighten everyone. This infamous antagonist from Stephen King’s novel IT is well-known for being a shape-shifter, adopting the form that instills terror in its prey, reflecting their deepest fears.
In preparing to play the character of Bill Denbrough, James McAvoy found that revisiting the book for the movie version of “IT Chapter Two” brought about adult nightmares concerning Pennywise. During a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he openly shared this experience.
Why James McAvoy started having Pennywise nightmares ahead of IT Chapter Two
The former X-Men cast member shared a similar thought with GQ Australia, stating, “As an adult, I’ve developed a fear of Pennywise that never troubled me in my teenage years. Perhaps I’m becoming more timid with age, or maybe it’s because as an adult, I can better appreciate the terror and frightening elements of the character.
He went on to say: “I believe we come to understand our own frailty. It’s similar to how a child perceives a week as an eternity. So the notion of possibly dying at age 50 seems distant, like it’s thousands of years away. However, when you’re 40, or during my filming, at the age of 38, you suddenly grasp that you might not survive until next week, let alone live another 35 years if fortunate. Death becomes a constant presence for us now.

Title Review: “Stephen King’s Verdict on Peacock’s Teacup – A Thrilling Ride! ‘John Carpenter’s The Car’: One of the Wildest Stephen King Adaptations, According to King Himself; A Top-Tier Film Based on a Less Known Short Story”
“What did Stephen King think about Peacock’s Teacup? He found it thrilling and declared it one of the wildest adaptations of his works. Particularly, he mentioned ‘John Carpenter’s The Car’ as a standout, while also highlighting this film as one of his best movies, based on a lesser-known short story.
Despite enduring nightmarish experiences, McAvoy found a deeper appreciation for the classic novel. He explained to Entertainment Weekly, “The story is about a small American town, it’s about death, it’s about aging, it’s about growing up.” The film, he suggested, is not just a horror movie but can also be seen as reminiscent of movies like Stand by Me and The Goonies.
