Jon Hamm is opening up about why he prefers to take on roles with him as the bad guy.
The Emmy-winning actor was recently queried in an interview for W Magazine about how he manages to portray “unacceptable actions” in a captivating manner on-screen.
Hamm expressed that it’s understandable for viewers to connect with characters who make mistakes, as we’ve all been there. Interestingly, he often prefers portraying antagonistic roles in movies and television productions.
He went on to say that his past isn’t all holy, it leans more towards wrongdoings. He added that Superman can sometimes feel dull, but he expressed no disrespect towards the new Superman, David Corenswet, who he wishes is as charming in real life.”

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve always admired the versatility of an actor like Jon Hamm. From his early roles to his latest performances, he’s demonstrated an incredible range. Some of my favorite characters he’s brought to life include the sinister Sheriff Roy Tillman in Fargo season five, the edgy Buddy in Baby Driver (2017), and the powerful tech billionaire Paul Marks on The Morning Show.
Previously, Hamm argued in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that his character Don Draper from Mad Men was actually more of an antagonist. He said, “Jimmy Gandolfini, whom I knew a bit, had a similar relationship to Tony Soprano, and Bryan Cranston had it with Walter White. These characters were celebrated for the wrong reasons.” Hamm added, “People thought that Don was this idealized figure of masculinity or something like that. There were countless analyses, but you go, ‘Wait, he was really messed up.’ And I was quite content with how Matt Weiner concluded the story, but it was also difficult.
