Why Kyle Allen Needs to Be in Every Movie Right Now

In terms of satisfying my cravings for romantic comedies using my Netflix subscription, the quality can be quite inconsistent. Some titles have been absolutely wonderful, such as “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “Set It Up,” and “Always Be My Maybe.” However, there have also been releases that didn’t resonate with me at all, like the “The Kissing Booth” films and “He’s All That.” Yet, a new release among the 2025 Netflix lineup, titled “The Life List, has left me not just smitten by its romance, but also pondering deeper questions about my own life.

Why hasn’t Kyle Allen, who played such a memorable role in the movie alongside Sofia Carson and Connie Britton, achieved more fame than he currently has? Given his outstanding performance, I feel compelled to discuss this topic. (Please note that some spoilers are coming up, so it would be best if you watch the movie before reading further.)

Netflix’s The Life List Was Such A Sweet Movie, But Kyle Allen Made It Even Better

At the moment, “The Life List” is the top Netflix film worldwide, according to Netflix, since its release on March 28th. I hadn’t realized it was adapted from a novel, but as soon as I hit play, I felt drawn to accompany Sofia Carson’s character, Alex, on her journey. The movie captivated me right from the start when Alex discovered an unusual wish left by her mother (portrayed by Britton) in her will amidst her grief over her recent demise. What a compelling way to kick off a film!

I stood beside her when she discovered that she too had been let go from her position in her mother’s company, and encouraged her to accomplish the tasks on the “Life List” she created at age thirteen. If she finishes all of them before New Year’s, she will receive her inheritance; for each completed item, she’ll get a DVD that her mom recorded. As soon as Kyle Allen’s lawyer, Brad, appeared to handle the case, I had a strong hunch he would become her romantic interest due to his charming nature. Turned out my intuition was correct, but it didn’t detract from the pleasure of watching the story unfold in the movie.

Indeed, my anticipation for Alex and Brad’s romance unfolding was heightened by my foresight of their eventual union, as well as the likelihood thereof. Watching Alex pursue standup comedy, master “Clair de Lune” on the piano, and seek true love—often with the wrong partners—only fueled my fascination for the narrative. While this plotline adhered to a common romantic comedy formula, Allen’s portrayal added depth and value to it all. When he finally confessed his feelings for her (in the car), my heart momentarily stopped.

I’m Not Surprised Kyle Allen Is So Good In The Life List, Because I’ve Been Liking Him In Movies For A While

It’s no surprise that test viewings of “The Life List” left some viewers reconsidering their relationships, as it significantly raises the bar for what women should expect when seeking a suitable partner. For me, the four-question list presented in the movie was particularly captivating during Alex’s partner selection process, but even just having Allen in the film served as a reassuring sign that I would be left with a heartwarming feeling by the film’s conclusion.

Over time, I’ve watched him in numerous lesser-known films, some of which weren’t particularly great (like the average “The In Between” on Paramount+ in 2022). However, he consistently manages to captivate me with his performances, elevating the projects he’s involved in. It’s not an easy feat for an actor, but I believe Allen possesses that star quality! The film that truly caught my attention was when he worked on “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” alongside Kathryn Newton, released in 2021. That movie has stayed with me since I gave it a four-star rating in my review.

Ever since that time, I’ve kept track of the actor’s career, as he appeared in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” even though his role there was minor. He also starred in a modern take on Romeo for Hulu’s “Rosaline” alongside Kaitlyn Dever, and delivered an impressive performance in “A Haunting In Venice” along with Kenneth Branagh, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, and Tina Fey.

He’s Also An Incredible Dancer?!

By the way, did you know that Kyle Allen is a ballet-trained dancer? Take a look at this entertaining video he made with Sofia Carson during the promotional tour for The Life List:

This version maintains the original meaning while sounding more conversational and engaging.

Why hasn’t he become an internet heartthrob yet? It’s about time we make that happen! This 30-year-old has the potential to be as famous as Glen Powell, but with a more endearing, puppy-dog-eyed charm. As you may recall, Allen trained in sports acrobatics for six years before moving on to classical ballet for five years. However, he left school with an injury and lost interest in pursuing a professional career. After that, he began landing commercials and eventually landed his first major role on Hulu’s “The Path” alongside Aaron Paul.

After The Life List, I Think It’s About Time Kyle Allen Was In All The Things

Due to the fact that the actor has been gaining recognition during the pandemic through numerous direct-to-streaming productions, it’s not surprising that he isn’t yet a familiar face in many homes. Most of the films he’s featured in are ones I wouldn’t have watched if not for my job requiring me to see everything. However, with The Life List becoming a global success and likely Allen’s most successful film so far, I hope the powers-that-be in Hollywood take notice and offer him every role they can, right away!

I adore watching him in romantic films, but I believe he has the versatility to excel in various genres. In particular, I’d be thrilled if he took on a major musical role after his impressive performances in West Side Story, though I hope he continues to explore all avenues! Moreover, he’s set to appear in Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming Netflix thriller this year, which suggests that he might be branching out soon.
