Those eagerly awaiting Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in the latest I Know What You Did Last Summer movie might want to temper their expectations.
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revealed in an interview with People magazine that some scenes featuring the two actors were removed from the final version of the slasher sequel, even though she originally intended for these scenes to be the opening of the movie.
In every film, Robinson notes, what seems like a great idea initially during production often changes when you assemble the final product. She admits to cutting certain scenes featuring Tung and Chavez because, despite finding them impressive individually, they didn’t harmonize well with the overall flow of the movie.”

“Robinson points out that in every film, what looks good on paper might not work as intended when everything is put together. She chose to remove scenes involving Tung and Chavez because, although they were strong individually, they didn’t mesh well with the rest of the movie.
In this particular instance, their involvement wasn’t relevant – Lola and Nicholas are simply outstanding individuals whom I’d gladly work with again. My experience with them was wonderful. They excelled in their roles. As an added note, she commented, they were terrific. However, within the broader context of the movie, it didn’t align properly.
The director of “Do Revenge” often finds it unfortunate when they need to remove an actor’s scenes, as they dislike causing such inconvenience to the performers. It’s also disappointing when a scene they enjoy is not suitable for the film’s final edit.
Chavez, who gained prominence last year by playing Lyle Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that he had an enjoyable experience filming the remake.
He acknowledged that horror enthusiasts might criticize him for his lack of knowledge about “I Know What You Did Last Summer” before joining the project, but he admitted he wasn’t aware of it. He lives in a secluded manner, hence the joke about not being bothered. However, as they discussed the idea, he consulted his girlfriend, an ardent horror fan. Upon hearing about it, her face lit up and she dropped her jaw in anticipation. She urged them to watch the movie immediately. They did so, and it turned out to be a delightful experience for him.
Chavez went on saying, “As a child, I was a big fan of Scooby-Doo, so seeing Freddie Prinze Jr. taking on a role other than Fred brought me great joy. Afterward, I reached out to the director [Robinson] and listened intently as she presented her vision for the project’s direction. My response? A resounding ‘Yes!’
In the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” remake, opening this Friday, both Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt will once again embody their original characters from the 1997 movie. The new cast also includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Jonah Hauer-King, and Tyriq Withers.
