Why Marvel Rivals Should Do a Marvel vs. Capcom Collaboration

In a straightforward manner, Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game, but it generates most of its revenue from selling cosmetic items. Regularly, approximately every couple of weeks, it introduces highly sought-after skins in the Rivals shop.

As the sun dips below the horizon at the end of the initial season, an enthusiastic user on platform X (previously known as Twitter) has conceived a brilliant partnership concept that could potentially yield substantial profits for NetEase if they choose to implement it.

Here’s the list of characters and Capcom skins in the concept art:

  • Black Widow – Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
  • Captain America – Captain Commando
  • Venom – Nemesis (Resident Evil)
  • Iron Fist – Ryu (Street Fighter)
  • Star-Lord – Dante (Devil May Cry)
  • Hela – Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
  • Rocket Raccoon – Viewtiful Joe
  • Peni Parker – Tron Bonne (Mega Man)
  • Winter Soldier – Bionic Commando
  • Iron Man – Mega Man
  • Jeff the Land Shark – Servbot (Mega Man)

Many commenters have acknowledged that the idea is quite intriguing, and it might entice some individuals to give the game a go for the very first time.

It remains unclear exactly what hoops NetEase and Marvel Games need to jump through in terms of legal procedures to secure permission for certain Capcom characters. However, such a collaboration could prove mutually beneficial, as many fans speculate that Capcom might soon be announcing the next installment of their Marvel vs. Capcom series.

The Current State of MvC

To be honest, it’s clear that the popularity of Marvel vs. Capcom has hit a record low. This is because the fourth main installment, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, launched in 2017, but received mostly average criticisms.

Fans speculate that Capcom might soon unveil Marvel vs. Capcom 5, as their recent release of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection seems to be a strategic move aimed at testing the enthusiasm of fans towards the franchise and preparing the ground for a potential announcement.

Why MvC Would Be the Perfect Collab

Considering the current buzz about the new Marvel vs. Capcom collection, it’s an ideal moment for Marvel Rivals to introduce some character skins inspired by Capcom. Not only would this tap into nostalgia for past MvC games, but it could also fuel anticipation for whatever fresh projects Capcom might be working on.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that Rivals already boasts an extensive library of source material for new skins, including the MCU and various comics. Yet, imagine the buzz if a collaboration with another IP were to take place! After all, Overwatch has successfully ventured into other worlds, such as My Hero Academia and Avatar: The Last Airbender. So, it’s intriguing to ponder the possibility of Marvel Rivals exploring a property outside of the Marvel universe, introducing a fresh and exciting twist for players like myself.

It’s uncertain what they might prepare for the upcoming second season, but if they decide to concentrate on a mutant-themed season, a collaboration with Marvel vs Capcom would be fitting since the initial game in the series is X-Men: Children of the Atom.
