The second season is now just around the corner, with fresh updates at Star Wars Celebration fueling even greater anticipation for this highly anticipated Disney+ series. Dave Filoni, the showrunner and Creative Chief of Lucasfilm, has shared tantalizing insights about the upcoming season, which will pave the way for his forthcoming “Heir to the Empire” film.
Indicating that new episodes of “Ahsoka” on Disney+ might debut as early as 2026. The upcoming season is rumored to feature notable Star Wars characters such as Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker and the popular Admiral Ackbar. Yet, it’s possible that additional favorite characters may make a surprise appearance in “Ahsoka’s” next season, potentially including a revered Jedi Master.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Needs to Appear in Ahsoka Season 2
Ewan McGregor Can Reunite With Hayden Christensen Again
In the possible sequel of “Ahsoka 2”, Ewan McGregor might return as the Jedi Master. After winning the hearts of Star Wars fans with his portrayal in all three Prequel Trilogy films, and brief appearances in The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, McGregor fully reprised his role in Disney+ miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. Despite no updates about a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi since its conclusion, McGregor has expressed interest in returning to the role. If Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn’t get a second season, then Ahsoka could offer the next opportunity for Ewan McGregor’s iconic Jedi character to appear.
In the upcoming season 2 of “Ahsoka,” there’s a strong possibility that both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who previously appeared together as Force Ghosts in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” could reappear alongside Ahsoka Tano. This iconic trio, whose adventures were some of the highlights of the animated series, has never been seen together in live-action before. Given that their stories are drawing to a close, fans eagerly anticipate this long-awaited live-action reunion on screen in “Ahsoka” season 2.
Why Obi-Wan’s Presence is Important to Ahsoka’s Story
Obi-Wan Is a Mentor Figure to Ahsoka Tano
The anticipation for Ewan McGregor rejoining Star Wars is high, but Lucasfilm should avoid using him merely as a tribute to fans. Instead, Obi-Wan’s character in Ahsoka‘s second season needs to contribute significantly to the storyline. Fortunately, there are several reasons why his inclusion can be justified.
In their time together, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka developed a profound bond. Although Ahsoka wasn’t formally under Obi-Wan’s tutelage, she learned valuable lessons from him, striving to emulate his patience and resilience – traits that Anakin Skywalker lacked. Their last encounter occurred just before the downfall of the Jedi Order. Despite surviving Order 66, they never reunited afterward, each left to ponder the other’s destiny.
By appearing as a Force Ghost, Obi-Wan could reconnect with Ahsoka – offering an opportunity for both characters to address their lingering feelings and heal from past trauma.
In the pivotal moments of Revenge of the Sith, both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan carry a sense of remorse for their friend Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side. They have never been able to fully let go of this guilt, feeling partially responsible for his transformation. A healing moment would be for them to work through these feelings together, ideally with Anakin by their side, as it would resonate deeply with fans who grew attached to these characters during The Clone Wars. Concluding the story of Obi-Wan by showing him finding peace over Anakin’s downfall, twenty years after his first appearance in The Phantom Menace, would be a fitting and emotional closure for both characters and their loyal fans.
Ahsoka Can Give Obi-Wan the Perfect Ending
Obi-Wan Deserves to Get a More Conclusive Ending
In “A New Hope,” the venerable Jedi Master, Obi-Wan, allows Darth Vader to take his life while Luke Skywalker watches in awe. This event is crucial to Luke’s journey, but it can be disheartening when considering Obi-Wan’s character development. After all, Obi-Wan has gained immense popularity since his roles in the Prequel Trilogy, making fans yearn for a more fulfilling conclusion to his story. Although Obi-Wan continues to appear as a Force Ghost throughout the Original Trilogy, his character arc doesn’t get the closure it deserves. Introducing Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan again in “Ahsoka” could provide him with the satisfying ending that he never received.
The central journey of Obi-Wan’s character revolves around his connection with Anakin Skywalker. Over the course of the Star Wars saga, their bond undergoes multiple transformations. At first, Anakin is a stranger to Obi-Wan, then becomes his student, then a brother, and ultimately, a fierce adversary. However, Anakin’s tale concludes on a triumphant note as he achieves redemption, restoring balance to the Force. To properly conclude Obi-Wan’s storyline, it is essential to portray these two complex characters achieving reconciliation, providing them with a fulfilling ending that completes their intertwined arc. Although there are tales in Legends about their interactions as Force Ghosts, it would be more poignant if McGregor and Christensen reprised their roles for their emotional reunion, thus giving Obi-Wan the conclusive resolution he has been missing for nearly five decades.
In order for Ewan McGregor to once again embody the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he must return in “Ahsoka” Season 2. This move will allow the Disney+ series to culminate his long-running storyline and create one of the most heartwrenching tales within the Star Wars Saga.
