Why Pedro Pascal Never Wants to Be Clean Shaven for a Role Ever Again Unless It’s “Completely Necessary”

Pedro Pascal prefers to have facial hair for his acting roles, and he has a reason.

In a recent episode of “Agree To Disagree” on LADbible, the actor and his The Fantastic Four: First Steps costar, Vanessa Kirby, engaged in a friendly debate over which facial hair style – mustache or beard – is more attractive.

It was then that The Last of Us actor spoke openly about his opinions on screen facial hair, following his appearance as the villainous Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot. This time, he was clean-shaven.

Pascal remarked, ‘I sprout such unflattering facial hair, yet if I were to remove every bit of it… I find myself looking quite [unattractive]. I strongly disapprove of my clean-shaven self.’ In Wonder Woman 1984, he was taken aback by his appearance. He adored the film, but he was so repulsed by how he looked that he has never rewatched it unless absolutely necessary.

Although he appreciated sporting a beard in the “Fantastic Four” film, even though some fans criticized that Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic doesn’t have facial hair in Marvel Comics, the actor from “Materialists” confessed that if the producers and director Matt Shakman had required him to be clean-shaven for “Fantastic Four,” he would have obliged. However, he added that the look of all characters in the movie was a joint effort in collaboration.

In a nostalgic, futuristic ’60s backdrop, the revamped “Fantastic Four” features Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn among its cast. This movie chronicles the adventures of the superhero team as they fight off a devouring cosmic deity called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious emissary, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). As they strive to maintain their heroic duties, they also nurture the power of their familial ties. The movie premieres in cinemas on July 24.
