Rose Is the Underrated Star of the Show

In the first season of “The Night Agent,” Gabriel Basso’s character, Peter Sutherland, took center stage. He maintains his leading role in Season 2, working alongside Rose Larkin once again. Initially appearing to be in distress, Rose quickly demonstrates that she is incredibly resourceful and valuable, much more so than anyone initially perceived.

Just as in Season 2, Rose finds herself entangled in Peter’s perilous predicament once more. However, this time she is not just helpful; she plays a pivotal role. She’s akin to Chloe O’Brien to Jack Bauer from “24”, but with an even greater impact. In essence, much of what Peter manages to achieve would have been impossible without her, which makes Rose a strong contender for the most compelling character in the second season of this blockbuster show.

In Season 1, the storyline kicks off when I receive an urgent call from Rose, skillfully portrayed by Luciane Buchanan, a talented actor hailing from New Zealand. Her aunt and uncle had been brutally murdered, and she was left with only one number to contact if she ever found herself in danger. Little did I know, Rose wasn’t just a frightened young woman. She was an exceptionally skilled coder, more adept at navigating computers than most. Throughout Season 1, she utilized her expertise to help me track our adversaries, dismantle the conspiracy, and even save lives.

In Season 2, Rose exhibits greater cunning and boldness. Not only is she an accomplished hacker, but she also demonstrates lethal prowess in real-life situations. She has the ability to adapt quickly and take actions that keep her and others safe from dangerous circumstances.

The story starts with her strategy of locating Peter, who’s been a Night Action agent for the past 10 months and must keep his location and activities confidential. As a result, he moved away, and now she resides in California. She is currently employed at an advertising firm where her duties involve creating marketing software that allows them to pinpoint potential clients by constructing profiles based on data mining from the internet.

The narrative unfolds as she embarks on finding Peter, who has been a Night Action agent for 10 months and can’t reveal his location or tasks. So he left, settling in California where she now resides. She works for an ad company, developing software that mines data from the internet to create profiles of potential clients, which helps them target their marketing efforts more effectively.

When she receives an enigmatic call about Peter and suspects he’s in danger, she modifies the code for her own monitoring purposes. Subsequently, she searches through the entire internet, employing her program’s advanced facial recognition technology to find any images of Peter. Eventually, a match is found. He appears in the backdrop of a selfie taken at a walk-in clinic in New York by a woman.

Utilizing the phone number and information about the location, Rose successfully traced the phone to where Peter was located. To their surprise, they found him engaged in an intense chase with enemies firing at him, marking the resumption of their perilous journey. Even Caroline, who had access to the FBI’s resources, was astounded that she couldn’t find Peter within such a short timeframe, but Rose managed to do so instead.

Rose Proves Herself

Initially, Peter and Caroline both feel that Rose should depart for her safety. However, their sentiments shift when they uncover Rose’s unique abilities. In truth, they no longer view her as a bother but as an indispensable asset. Utilizing the same software, Rose manages to retrieve records of the gunman who targeted them, and tragically killed Peter’s partner Alice (Brittany Snow). Once they have his identity, they locate his sister for additional information. This intel turns out to be crucial in the investigation, as it ultimately helps the team trace the gunman to his employer, who has been selling government secrets.

Keeping Cool Under Pressure

In due course, she navigates Peter through a structure where it becomes apparent that those they are evading not only know of their presence but are eavesdropping on their communications. She subtly steers him towards avoiding the offenders, while concealing the fact that she’s aware of their eavesdropping. Utilizing surveillance cameras to which she has access, she cleverly convinces him to act as if he boarded a bus that pulled up close by, thus successfully averting a significant assault.

In yet another perilous predicament, she’s requested to accompany a foreign diplomat to a social gathering, with the objective of obtaining his Iranian counterpart’s access card to his private office and retrieving a briefcase. Peter was assigned to surreptitiously enter the office, but when he was summoned elsewhere and couldn’t retrieve the key card from Noor (Arienne Mandi), Rose courageously steps up to the task.

Instead of slipping away discreetly, she manages to open the briefcase covertly, takes pictures of its contents, and then departs unnoticed. In an apparently frightening situation where she was detected while leaving the upper floor, her quick wit helps her escape with a plausible excuse. She claims that she was merely searching for a bathroom since the one downstairs had a queue, and by chance, found the phone on the staircase banister.

Dipping a Toe Into Chemical Warfare

In the end, during her capture by Markus and his group while paying a visit to the professor, she cleverly impersonates his computer expert assistant. Though she’s adept with computers, she claims ignorance about chemistry. Yet, she successfully deceives them.

In the midst of creating the chemical weapon, Rose proposes another ingenious idea to buy them some time – she suggests they brew a gas that can be dispersed through the vents, causing Markus’ men to momentarily lose consciousness, allowing them to escape. Amazingly, this plan succeeds, but Markus catches up just in time and finds a protective mask, making their getaway more challenging.

Rose Is the Underrated Star of the Show

In numerous situations, Rose stands by Peter’s side, assisting him in getting out of tricky situations. He also lends his support to her on many occasions, but their worth is equally significant. It’s notable that even Caroline relies on her, despite the fact that Rose isn’t a trained agent and they are exposing her to danger. Her abilities are so remarkable that they can’t afford to send her back: she’s indispensable to them.

Rose demonstrates that her main abilities aren’t limited to using a computer; instead, she expands on those skills significantly. Her initial encounter in Season 1 had profound effects, causing recurring nightmares and necessitating therapy. However, labeling her as merely a coder or hacker undervalues everything she accomplished during Season 2.

In all scenarios of The Night Agent Season 2, it’s widely agreed that Rose stands out as a remarkable character. Despite the excitement fans experience watching Peter display his exceptional combat skills and navigate his personal journey towards self-discovery and freedom from his father’s influence, it’s Rose who leaves an indelible impression in each scene. Some might view her as merely Peter’s vulnerability, but what many overlook is that she also serves as a source of his resilience.
