Why The Boys is Bringing Back Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy in Season 5

Why The Boys is Bringing Back Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy in Season 5

As a long-time fan of both Jensen Ackles and the “The Boys” series, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that the fifth season will delve deeper into the complex father-son relationship between Soldier Boy and Homelander, and that we can expect this dynamic to play a significant role in the final season. Having followed Ackles’ career since his days on “Supernatural,” it is exciting to see him reprising his role as Soldier Boy and potentially reuniting with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jared Padalecki.

In the upcoming fifth season of “The Boys,” Soldier Boy and Homelander will delve deeper into their complex father-son dynamic, as teased by showrunner Eric Kripke. Although Jensen Ackles’ character was introduced late in Season 4, fans are eagerly anticipating the implications of this new development and can hardly wait for the final season to arrive.

In a chat with GamesRadar, Kripke hinted at Soldier Boy’s current loyalty shift due to Butcher’s betrayal in Season 3. The outcome of the family reunion could lead to Butcher facing an even bigger conflict than anticipated.

“We discovered that we hadn’t delved deeply into the dynamic between Homelander and Soldier Boy as father and son. There’s rich potential in examining their feelings towards each other – how Soldier Boy perceives Homelander, and vice versa. So, we decided to focus on exploring this significant relationship.”

I’ve seen Soldier Boy’s fierce determination to seek revenge against Butcher ever since their betrayal in season 3. His thirst for vengeance makes him a compelling antagonist. Having served together and shared battles, it’s heartbreaking to see him switch sides and align with the supes. As someone who has experienced the pain of betrayal, I can relate to Soldier Boy’s unyielding desire for justice. The complexities of his character add depth to the narrative, making for an engaging watch.

Fans are thrilled about Soldier Boy’s comeback in the series. Besides the excitement over Jensen Ackles’ beloved character and the possibility of a Supernatural reunion with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and perhaps Jared Padelecki, there’s another reason to look forward to his return – Soldier Boy will reportedly play a significant role in the upcoming Vought Rising spin-off prequel.

At the San Diego Comic-Con panel for the show “The Boys”, it was announced that the main series will conclude with Season 5, but the story will carry on through spin-offs similar to how “The Walking Dead” did. In addition to “Gen V”, the new spin-off titled “Vought Rising” will guide “The Boys” into a new phase on Amazon Prime Video.

In the disclosure, Kripke divulged that the concept for the prequel series was not fresh and had even been proposed at the same time as Gen V. Delving a bit deeper into the latest addition to the franchise, Kripke shared during an interview with Variety:

1. “For quite some time now, we’ve been carrying this concept in our back pocket. When I approached Amazon to discuss spin-offs, I presented two ideas: Gen V and Vought Rising. At first, they suggested starting with Gen V and seeing how it performed before considering Rising. Fortunately, Gen V did well. I find the story of our evolution particularly captivating. The Boys can be seen as a film noir, with elements of cops and robbers. To create a classic interpretation featuring fedoras, trench coats, and scandalous content, reminiscent of L.A. Confidential but with superheroes, promises to be thrilling. Jensen and Aya are incredibly talented; they’re poised to make a tremendous impact.”

As a long-time fan of the Boys series, I have eagerly awaited any news about new spin-offs or prequels since the conclusion of the original show. With my busy schedule and limited free time, I was worried that I might have to wait years before getting another fix of the Boys universe. However, a recent announcement has given me hope! It seems that Gen V Season 2 will be released in 2025, providing a much-needed bridge between the end of the original series and the arrival of the spin-off and prequel shows, which are expected to debut no earlier than 2026.
