As a long-time fan and follower of “Blue Bloods“, I must admit that the news of its cancellation has left me feeling like I’ve been hit by a car bomb (or perhaps a Brooklyn cab) – not quite dead, but certainly shaken up and disoriented. I’ve grown attached to the Reagan family over the years, and the thought of their adventures coming to an end is as heart-wrenching as saying goodbye to an old friend who’s moving away.

Over the past eight episodes, I haven’t been focusing on the possible end for ‘Blue Bloods’, but rather its continued success. In a list of Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in terms of total viewers), we ranked 9th out of 100, if you exclude the three football shows. That means we’re at the 6th spot! Selleck shared these thoughts with TVInsider before the start of Season 14’s second half. Given the circumstances, it’s no wonder he’s puzzled that CBS decided to cancel the show, considering it has been operating in a challenging time slot for years and still managed to become a popular, can’t-miss series. “I’m struggling to make sense of everything because the show was consistently successful from the start. So, how do I feel? It will take some time to process all these feelings,” he concluded. Since Selleck initially resisted the idea of canceling the show, his reaction is entirely understandable.
Although it’s reasonable that the actor feels frustrated, it’s important to note that Selleck isn’t the only one in the cast with this sentiment. Some other members of the Reagan family have voiced similar wishes for more family escapades, even though CBS has declined to renew the series.
The show’s cast has protested hard against its cancellation
A large portion of the actors strongly objected to the termination of “Blue Bloods.” Notably, Donnie Wahlberg was quite vocal about it, often participating alongside fans in the #SaveBlueBloods movement on what used to be known as Twitter. More recently, he hinted during a pre-concert Q&A for New Kids on the Block that there could still be hope for “Blue Bloods.” He stated, “Perhaps there’ll be something else following it. I don’t have any official information yet, but there are things in the works. So, something exciting might occur.
Despite initial doubts and months of speculation, there seems to be good news about “Blue Bloods”. CBS has confirmed that they will air a continuation series for this popular show. While the specific details such as cast members and plotlines remain unknown, it is certain that the show won’t be completely ending. This might bring some relief to its massive fanbase, who won’t see the show return exactly as before, but will still get to enjoy a piece of it continuing on.
