2025 has rolled around and the Golden Globes results are in, casting a radiant spotlight on some truly deserving winners! Among them is the sensational movie adaptation of Wicked, graced by the talents of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Directed by the brilliant Jon M. Chu, this film has been an unparalleled success – critically acclaimed and a blockbuster at the box office, raking in a staggering $681 million so far, making it the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation ever! Unfortunately, Deadpool & Wolverine, which made quite a splash with its own set of records, fell just short, missing out on a Golden Globe to our victorious musical.
In the 2025 Golden Globes, the film “Wicked: Part One” garnered four nominations. Notably, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo received their first-ever recognition as Supporting Actress and Actress in a Motion Picture, respectively. The movie was also nominated for “Best Motion Picture” and “Outstanding Achievement in Cinema and Box Office Success.” As expected, the film won in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Cinema and Box Office Success,” surpassing popular competitors like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” and “Alien: Romulus.
During the presentation of the well-earned award for “Wicked”, director Jon M. Chu stepped onto the stage alongside Grande, Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Marc E. Platt, and Jeff Goldblum. In his speech, he expressed gratitude towards everyone who contributed to the movie’s creation.
We deeply appreciate you, as we stand on the shoulders of your achievements. My parents immigrated to this country and adored The Wizard of Oz. They shared tales of the yellow brick road and the enchanting land beyond the rainbow, where dreams could become reality if one dared to dream. Standing here, I’m awestruck by you all, living our collective dream and marveling at this stunning cast. It surpasses my wildest expectations.

You remind us just how significant it is to create these magical moments that bring us together, transporting us to different worlds and evoking emotions we thought long forgotten. ‘Wicked: For Good’ Promises to Elevate the Musical Spectacle
Initially, the first version of “Wicked” broke numerous records as the highest-earning Broadway adaptation ever. Interestingly, predictions suggest that its sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” will outdo its predecessor in terms of both musical and visual splendor, making it an even more spectacular show.
During a recent chat with Deadline, director Jon M. Chu shared some insights about the upcoming sequel’s production.
He stated that he simultaneously trimmed two movies a year ago so he could watch them consecutively, with anticipation for their reunion. It was quite an event to witness both, he added. “I had completed the project. I felt it necessary to ensure every scene in one served a purpose for both, and we accomplished that, wrapping up last year. I only revisited it recently. Now, we’re fine-tuning and making all the necessary adjustments.
It appears that the second segment is undergoing more detailed edits to align seamlessly with the occurrences of the initial movie, and given his past accomplishments in the G.I. Joe and Now You See Me series, there’s no questioning the filmmaker’s ability to pull this off effectively. So, how thrilled are you for Wicked: For Good?
