To build excitement for the cinema debut of “Wicked: For Good” this autumn, NBC is organizing a two-hour special event on Thursday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET, as was earlier announced during their NBCU Upfront presentation in May.
The award-winning actors Cynthia Erivo (as Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (as Glinda) are scheduled to feature in a unique television special. This event will be broadcast initially, with the option to stream it on Peacock the following day. Notably, Peacock is already hosting Wicked: Part I, which earned over $750 million globally and won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales).
The special event, yet unnamed, is set to unfold at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, historically known as the venue for the Oscars. This unique gathering will bring together stars like Erivo and Grande along with their fellow cast members and unexpected guests, who are expected to perform numerous songs from the initial movie, and possibly even a few tunes from the upcoming film, according to official announcements.
Ben Winston and Raj Kapoor are the main producers, with Fulwell Entertainment, led by Ben, taking charge of supervision.
How to watch NBC’s Wicked special ahead of For Good
On Thursday, November 6th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, a two-hour special of the musical “Wicked” will be broadcast on NBC. The following day, it will become available on Peacock.
When does Wicked: For Good come out?
Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters everywhere Friday, November 21.
In the wake of a malicious public defamation that portrayed Elphaba as the “Wicked Witch of the West,” the musical For Good introduces Erivo’s unjustly accused character, who is living in self-imposed isolation within the dense Ozian forest. There, she tirelessly strives to protect voiceless creatures and reveal the true nature of The Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum.
In the radiant Emerald City, Glinda now stands as a beacon of goodness, living a life of renown and opulence that seems undeserved. She’s been echoing the pro-Wizard rhetoric subtly instilled in her by Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). Moreover, she’s preparing for a grand wedding with Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).
Stricken with remorse for her questionable ethics and strained relationship with her closest friend, Glinda endeavors to reconcile Elphaba and the Wizard. However, this attempt only widens the chasm between the witches, further complicating matters for Boq (Ethan Slater), Fiyero, and Nessarose (Marissa Bode), Elphaba’s sister. The unexpected arrival of a girl from Kansas adds yet another layer to the intricate web of tension.
In a dramatic turn of events, as the crowd turns against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba must unite once more. Their unique friendship becomes crucial to their destinies, necessitating genuine understanding and compassion between them. Only by truly seeing each other can they bring about positive change, not just for themselves, but for all of Oz.
