The studio has announced that the sequel to the franchise movie, previously unnamed, is now titled “Wicked: For Good“. In a post from the official movie account, they hinted, “Prepare for transformation. Catch Wicked: For Good, exclusively in theaters on November 21, 2025.” The title seems to derive from a duet from the second act of the musical “Wicked: For Good”, co-written by Stephen Sondheim and Winnie Holzman. Both films were shot back-to-back, with Ariana Grande and Cythnia Erivo reprising their roles as Glinda and Elphaba respectively, continuing the story immediately following the events of “Defying Gravity.
The initial movie has earned more than $525 million USD worldwide, making it one of the top-grossing films this year. The film now ranks among Universal’s Top 15 highest-earning titles ever, and globally, it is the highest-grossing non-sequel of the year. Additionally, it stands as the second-highest stage adaptation in history after Mamma Mia!. The upcoming movie titled Wicked: For Good will be released next November.
