As a lifelong wrestling fan with a soft spot for the WWE and its larger-than-life personalities, I can’t help but be thrilled by the increasing intersections between sports entertainment and professional athletics. The recent stunt pulled by Seth “Freakin” Rollins at an NFL game is a perfect example of this exciting trend.
These days, it’s increasingly challenging not to stumble upon pro wrestling while watching sports, and I couldn’t be happier about it! In the past, I had to wait for weekly episodes or WWE events to catch glimpses of my beloved superstars. However, things have changed now; even NFL games are featuring them! Just recently, Seth “Freakin” Rollins was ejected from a game in an unforgettable manner, and the video of the incident is truly exhilarating.
At Lucas Oil Stadium during the Chicago Bears’ away game against the Indianapolis Colts, Rollins could not hide his enthusiasm as a die-hard fan. His fervor was evident when he appeared on the stadium screen and engaged in a lively interaction with ex-Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. The amusing exchange, which has been shared on Twitter, ends with Rollins playfully being “ejected” after his friendly altercation with the athlete.
Kudos to Seth Rollins for keeping Colts fans amused and taking on the role of the disliked villain during the interaction. Given how poorly the Bears were performing in their defeat against Indianapolis, one can’t help but speculate if Rollins deliberately asked to be removed from the scene instead of enduring the rest of the game. On a lighter note, I’m certain he would have preferred watching his team rather than entertaining the crowd, so it was commendable of him to do so.
I also have to talk about T.Y. Hilton’s involvement, which is the second time we’ve seen someone from Indiana’s professional sports participate in something WWE-related. Indiana Pacers superstar Tyrese Haliburton has made a few appearances in the WWE and was most recently on NXT to help orchestrate a title match between Trick Williams and Ethan Page.
Currently, WWE is experiencing a significant shift as it plans to transfer Monday Night Raw to Netflix, gradually moving its streaming content away from Peacock and into other platforms. The popularity of wrestling has never been higher, and the organization is increasingly teaming up with sports teams. Not long ago, a segment featuring Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns was filmed at Georgia Tech’s football stadium – an event that occurred shortly after a SmackDown segment.
Seth Rollins may have departed Lucas Oil Stadium under less-than-ideal circumstances, but he stands another chance at greatness when the WWE makes its comeback for the 2025 Royal Rumble. It’s uncertain if we’ll be tuning in through a Peacock Premium subscription or not, but the upcoming appearances of Roman Reigns and John Cena’s retirement tour will offer plenty of chances for Rollins to star in a significant narrative.
Here’s another way of expressing that, keeping it simple and conversational: It’s unclear if Rollins will get a significant storyline during WrestleMania season. Currently, the WWE is grappling with an overabundance of top-tier talent. Maybe sending them to sports events could provide more screen time and a bit of enjoyment. I bet it’s less demanding than traveling to three cities in a week for a grueling match!
On Monday evenings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), you can catch “Monday Night Raw” on USA Network. It’s here that Seth Rollins is often featured. Don’t miss the latest episode, and take a look at the 2024 TV schedule for a sneak peek of what else is scheduled to air during this fall season.
