Will Ferrell Faced Bad Weather On the Set of The Boys

As a movie aficionado who has spent countless hours huddled under blankets, braving the elements to catch premieres and screenings alike, I must say that Will Ferrell‘s cameo in The Boys’ fourth season was nothing short of spectacular. His brief yet impactful role as A-Train’s mentor served not only as a clever parody but also as a catalyst for character development, much like the torrential downpour he braved during filming.

In the fourth series of “The Boys,” comedy legend Will Ferrell made a significant appearance. Unfortunately, his visit was during an on-set storm. A secondary plot in this series revolved around the production of an untrue biography about A-Train’s life. This movie cast Ferrell as a typical mentor to Jesse T. Usher’s character. This storyline mimics the making of “The Blind Side” and, interestingly, provided a platform for A-Train’s development into a more socially and morally aware individual.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Kripke, the showrunner of ‘The Boys’, delved into the process of getting Will Ferrell on board for a cameo and shared the challenges of filming his scene. To summarize, the second episode of Season 4 starts with a clip featuring A-Train and his mentor, portrayed by Ferrell in an in-universe movie. The show then transitions to the set where Ferrell expresses concerns that the scene resembles ‘The Blind Side’, but is nonetheless comforted by the director. To make this cameo a reality, Ferrell embarked on a 36-hour journey that involved flying to Toronto, Canada and dedicating an extended period to shooting his brief appearance. Kripke elaborated on the process, stating:

Recently, I had a meeting with Will and his partner Carolina [Barlow]. Afterward, we exchanged texts. I found him really kind, so I asked if he’d consider traveling to Toronto for 36 hours to take on this role for us. He thought it was amusing and accepted, which was fantastic news.

During the filming of the second episode, it’s clear that the scenes for the A-Train movie were shot on a dismal, wet day in Toronto, Canada. The challenge with using this popular location is the unpredictable weather conditions that productions frequently encounter. This was also true for The Boys, which had the misfortune of filming on a particularly stormy day when Will Ferrell was present. Despite the challenging production conditions, Ferrell remained “gracious” throughout. Kripke disclosed this information.

On that particular day, the weather was atrocious with relentless sideways rain, freezing to the bone. It was heartbreaking to witness, as our lead actor had to endure it all day long. Despite the discomfort, he remained nothing short of kind and courteous throughout.

Apart from Will Ferrell, several other prominent Hollywood actors have lent their talents to “The Boys.” Most recently, Tilda Swinton voiced Ambrosius, a significant character in the latest season who is the Deep’s (Chace Crawford’s character) aquatic love interest. Charlize Theron portrayed a villain in an in-universe superhero film within the series, titled “Dawn of the Seven.” Simon Pegg played a minor role as Jack Quaid’s father in the first season, while Ann Cusack was cast as the mother of Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Meanwhile, Paul Reiser appeared as the Legend, a former high-ranking executive for Vought International, during the third season when Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) was introduced.

As the fifth season of “The Boys” seems to be its last, we can anticipate that there will be more surprise appearances. Each season has been progressively grander, introducing bigger names like Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Shawn Ashmore from X-Men. However, it’s crucial to remember that the characters played by these actors must align with the larger storyline, which is a top priority for Kripke. As he stated before Season 4, when it comes to casting new actors, “The story always comes first.
