2025’s Oscar nominations journey has been challenging, and this year’s list, which includes Will Ferrell and his popular Netflix documentary “Will & Harper”, has been overlooked by the prestigious award show. True to form as a renowned alumnus of Saturday Night Live, Ferrell reacted to the news using a memorable line from Studio 8H, specifically from Celebrity Jeopardy.
Ferrell persists in his winning streak, producing another smash hit titled “You’re Cordially Invited“. This new release is a joint effort with Reese Witherspoon, and it’s available to stream for those who have an Amazon Prime subscription. Additionally, the comedian shared some behind-the-scenes stories about his “Elf” shenanigans on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, alongside a critically acclaimed documentary.
Through the show’s YouTube channel, when Colbert inquired if the documentary was eligible for any Oscar awards, the actor from “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” responded succinctly and candidly:
*Colbert asked about Oscars eligibility, and the actor from “Anchorman” replied candidly.*
We didn’t get it.
It’s too bad they didn’t receive recognition since it’s an exceptional film and one of Cinemablend’s top movie selections for 2024. Ferrell and Colbert then joked a little about the Academy, particularly the documentary division of the association.
Before the actor from Daddy’s Home shared the popular line from Celebrity Jeopardy, he playfully mentioned that he hoped some audience members were present during the conversation. In other words, he said: “I hope some of you are here listening.
If you are a member of the Doc Branch, suck it.
Revisiting one of the most iconic late night NBC skits from the 90s-00s era was truly delightful. The timely reference was spot on, standing tall among the best SNL Celebrity Jeopardy performances. Will Ferrell, who portrayed Alex Trebek, delivered a top-notch rendition of the phrase, making it even more enjoyable. However, it’s unfortunate that despite the clever reference, the Academy overlooked the sentimental and enlightening buddy road trip, which feels undeserving of recognition.
In case you’re not aware, the series titled “Will & Harper” focuses on Will Ferrell and his former SNL colleague, friend, and collaborator, Harper Steele (who has now transitioned to Harper). Post-pandemic, they reunite to pursue a pastime they both cherish, which isn’t as simple as it once was. The documentary chronicles their road trip across the country, where they support each other and allow Harper to continue her personal journey during her transition. It’s an inspiring and relevant watch – take a look at the trailer for yourself!
Despite the Will & Harper document not receiving any recognition, Ferrell always manages to find humor in missed opportunities. The cheeky “Suck it” moment is nearly as satisfying as the nomination itself. I’m grateful to live in a world where that iconic line continues to resonate just as powerfully as ever. Furthermore, discovering the supposed true story behind the Celebrity Jeopardy sketch, thanks to Norm Macdonald, adds to the enjoyment.
Hearing Will Ferrell recite one of his famous lines from the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skits unexpectedly is just as good as winning an Oscar. To catch these timeless Alex Trebek sketches, you can subscribe to Peacock and stream them online.
