Will Marvel’s Werewolf By Night TV Special Receive A Follow-Up? Here’s What Director Michael Giacchino Says

As a long-time fan who’s seen more Marvel movies than I care to count and survived countless horror flicks, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment every time I think about the potential of more “Werewolf by Night.” The special was a refreshing departure from the usual Marvel fare, a delightful blend of horror and superhero elements that left me yearning for more.

For fans of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and horror movies, Disney+’s “Agatha All Along” has been an ideal blend of thrilling fright and magical adventures, offering fresh incentives for viewers to stay tuned. With this in mind, many are hoping that Marvel Studios will expand their scary and suspenseful lineup for the 2025 TV season and beyond, such as another solo special (or more) based on Gael Garcia Bernal’s “Werewolf by Night.” However, is it possible? Perhaps.

Since the premiere of the initial episode in October 2022, fans have been curious about many questions, as this was the first black-and-white project within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, for those with Disney+ subscriptions, a color version became available later. Recently, acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino, who worked on the “Werewolf by Night” special, had an interview with Brandon Davis about his future projects, including Matt Shakman’s “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and others. When asked about potential developments regarding Bernal’s Jack Russell character, this was Giacchino’s response:

The movie “Werewolf by Night” seems to have taken a backseat for now due to some recent changes and adjustments in the entertainment industry. It appears we’ll need to wait a bit longer to catch it.

Oh, those nostalgic times of 2022, when it felt inevitable that Kevin Feige would keep endorsing MCU horror by possibly reintroducing Man-Thing as the new head of the Avengers team in movies like Avengers: Doomsday. However, it seems like my thoughts might have been running a bit wild there, and perhaps not everyone else was thinking that way. But to put it another way, since the release of Werewolf by Night, Marvel has become more financially cautious and selective in its movie projects.

It’s wonderful to imagine that the massive success of Deadpool and Wolverine means even better things in the future. However, the studio has been making adjustments and reworking several upcoming TV series lately, including Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, and Daredevil: Born Again. This doesn’t necessarily mean these shows are being cancelled, but rather that they are being handled with more caution.

Marvel Movies In Order: How To Watch The MCU By Release Date And Chronologically

In summary, “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and “Werewolf by Night” are the only two titles under the Marvel Studios Special Presentations banner at this time. Although the studio suggests that this may be a recurring spot for less-frequently highlighted comic book favorites, there’s been talk about another special centered around Mephisto. However, due to the numerous unverified rumors surrounding this character, it would be imprudent to rely solely on these reports.

It seems reasonable to assume that horror films aren’t Marvel’s top priority, given that Mahershala Ali’s eagerly anticipated Blade reboot has been in development for a long time without an actual start of production. Moreover, there’s no sign yet of a Ghost Rider comeback, especially if Diego Luna is set to return to his role. If they can bring Robert Downey Jr. back as Doctor Doom, it shouldn’t be too difficult to bring Luna back on a motorcycle. Why not also consider incorporating the character Chucky into the MCU while we’re brainstorming?

As a gamer, I’m just as clueless as the game’s director about where my character is headed right now. Here’s to hoping for some twists or transformations coming up soon!
