Will Netflix’s Adolescence Return? Here’s What I Hope They Avoid!

In just a few months since the 2025 TV lineup began, some truly outstanding shows have emerged such as the second season of “Severance” and the third season of “The White Lotus”. Nevertheless, neither of these well-known series nor any other program has sparked discussions quite like “Adolescence“, a Netflix original series debuting in 2025 that revolves around a young British boy who stands accused of brutally murdering one of his classmates.

The four-part miniseries, featuring uninterrupted episodes, covered significant topics within just a few hours and ended with a poignant conclusion that left some viewers in tears. As of now, Netflix hasn’t announced a second season, but there are rumors that Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company, known for creating emotionally intense dramas, is in negotiations to bring it back soon.

Although I’m eagerly anticipating the unveiling of what co-creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have prepared for us, there are certain elements I sincerely hope they steer clear of.

A Second Season Isn’t Guaranteed, But There’s Talk

While it’s not certain if Adolescence will be renewed for another season, Deadline mentioned in April 2025, around a month after its debut on Netflix Top 10 and continued to stay there, that discussions were underway between Plan B, Jack Thorne, and Stephen Graham regarding the possibility of a comeback. However, no specifics about these talks or the creative team’s potential plans for a sequel have been revealed yet. But this is exciting news!

Immediately following the release of that report, The Hollywood Reporter shared a detailed interview with the cast of “Adolescence.” During this conversation, Graham was inquired about the possibility of a second season, to which he replied cryptically, “Remain inquisitive.

I Hope The Next Season Avoids Going Back To Jamie’s Story

Should the captivating series of “Adolescence” return for another season, I fervently hope the creators steer clear from revisiting Jamie Miller’s (Owen Cooper) storyline for further exploration. Having delved deeply into his situation and its aftermath, it seems unnecessary to delve back into that narrative thread. Nevertheless, I would eagerly welcome a guest appearance by his father, portrayed brilliantly by Stephen Graham, much like how significant characters from one season of “The Wire” made brief appearances in later seasons. Given the growing parallels between “Adolescence” and “The Wire,” such an inclusion could prove both intriguing and fitting.

Indeed, we could continue to base the series within the same neighborhood and educational institution, delving deeper into the themes introduced in the initial season. There’s a wealth of character development and plotlines yet unexplored, opening up numerous possibilities for the storyline.

Honestly, I Hope The Creators Flat-Out Avoid Future Seasons Entirely Without A Worthy Story To Tell

Despite my deep affection for “Adolescence” – I was so engrossed in it that I watched it all at once and couldn’t stop discussing it for days – I would sincerely prefer if Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne decided against a second season, should they struggle to find an appropriate storyline. It seems wiser to have just one brilliantly executed season of television than to produce something less creative or satisfying in the subsequent seasons. Regrettably, this is my honest opinion.

Would it disappoint me if Adolescence didn’t return? Not particularly. However, should it come back at some point in the future, I’ll be ready and waiting to catch it on Netflix from day one.
