After establishing himself as Jack Reacher on Prime Video, Jason Statham was enticed into the realm of the Fast & Furious series in 2023. He made his entrance in Fast & Furious 9, impressing audiences as Aimes, a powerful Agency operative with questionable loyalties. Fans immediately speculated that Statham might reprise his role for the potential final installment of the Dom Toretto storyline. It appears that Statham is equally eager for this to occur, hinting at a comeback in Fast & Furious 11 – or Fast 11, F&F11, Fast XI, or whatever name they ultimately decide on for the film.
Ritchson’s presence in “Fast X” suggests a possible return in the next installment. However, during a conversation with ScreenRant, the actor mentioned a significant challenge for the filmmakers – primarily, the star-studded cast they have assembled. In his own words, he highlighted this as a potential issue.
We frequently discuss this topic. One major hurdle for the franchise is coordinating schedules with busy stars like Dwayne, Vin, Jason Momoa, and myself, which can be quite difficult, similar to aligning stars in nature. So we’ll have to wait and see, but this project is close to my heart at Universal, and I enjoyed working on it immensely, so I hope to revisit it.
When Will ‘Fast & Furious 11’ Finally Get Moving?
Despite vague or inconsistent information about the next “Fast & Furious” film, it’s hard to imagine that the series won’t make a return to the big screen for one final installment, wrapping up the story in an satisfying conclusion.
At this point, it’s uncertain exactly how many more Fast & Furious films are in the pipeline, as there have been whispers of both Fast 11 leading to Fast 12, a Hobbs & Reyes spinoff featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa, and several other projects being developed concurrently. Despite it arguably being wiser to focus on completing one movie at a time, the Hollywood system doesn’t always adhere to this approach. While Fast X didn’t quite meet Universal’s box office expectations, for now, the path remains open for potentially numerous future installments.
It’s challenging for movies that hire multiple top-tier Hollywood stars like Ritchson mentioned, as it can be difficult to coordinate their schedules so they can all be available at once. For instance, Jason Momoa is involved with several projects such as this year’s Minecraft and his partnership with Dave Bautista on a buddy-cop film, along with many others like Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez who are all quite busy. Given the budget overruns and delays due to changes in directors and pandemic issues for Fast X, Universal might hesitate to start production until everything is properly arranged.
