Will the Invincible Movie Ever Happen? Robert Kirkman’s Surprising Update!

For quite some time now, the “streaming battles” have been ongoing, as each platform boasts its own critically-acclaimed original shows. Recently, Amazon Prime subscribers enjoyed Season 3 of Invincible, but speculation remains about a possible live-action film adaptation. Lately, Robert Kirman, the project’s mastermind, has shared some insights on the progress of this long-awaited venture.

Despite Robert Kirkman frequently showing enthusiasm for an Invincible film, the release schedule of the upcoming superhero movie remains uncertain. During a recent conversation with ComicBook, he reiterated his belief that a live-action version will eventually be made. In his own words:

“Robert Kirkman continues to express strong interest in an Invincible film, but the timeline for its release is still unclear. In a chat with ComicBook, he expressed confidence that a live-action adaptation is inevitable.

Regrettably, I don’t have a lot to share right now. However, let me tell you that the TV series significantly simplifies and complicates multiple areas of movie production in various ways. That’s about all I can disclose at this stage, but rest assured, it’s only early days. I’d be surprised if we don’t see it come to fruition someday.

I’m excited about it too! Although the writer didn’t provide a definite confirmation or release date, they seem optimistic that an Invincible movie is in the works eventually. Here’s hoping we hear more details soon and see some real progress on this project moving forward. Crossing my fingers!

Absolutely, enthusiasts of the series (including myself) may not need to get too excited just yet. Robert Kirkman stating an Invincible movie isn’t imminent doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a deal signed or anything concrete in motion. For now, it appears he’s more invested in the animated series.

In the thrilling finale of Season 3, Invincible’s trio – Mark, Eve, and Oliver – faced a grueling conflict against the Viltrumite Conquest. The fight was grand and violent, leaving many bystanders apparently dead in its wake. Throughout the episode, I found myself pondering how this action-packed scene could be translated to live-action.

The main hurdle in transforming Invincible into a live-action production would be recreating the epic scale from the comics and animated series, given that the characters are incredibly powerful and fast, particularly the Viltrumites like Omni-Man and Invincible himself. Moreover, the franchise’s signature use of graphic violence and gore could pose several challenges in making a live-action movie.

Example: In Season 1, there was a scene where Omni-Man brutally used his son as a weapon against numerous subway passengers. This scene is already troubling on paper and in the show itself, but imagining it happening live-action would undoubtedly make it even more distressing. We’ll have to wait and find out if the movie ever gets made.

Viewers can stream the complete first three seasons, along with the Atom Eve special, of Invincible on Amazon. Regretfully, it seems that no fresh episodes will be included in the 2025 TV debut schedule.
