It seems we’ve been discussing the possible end of the “Fast & Furious” movie series for quite some time now, and last year, the main character Vin Diesel confirmed that “Fast 11” would indeed conclude this action-packed tale. However, one might wonder if this is actually going to happen? Recently, Tyrese Gibson, who has portrayed Tej Parker in the series since “2 Fast 2 Furious,” expressed his thoughts on the matter during a recent interview.
To ensure everyone’s up-to-date, the eleventh installment of the Fast series, referred to both as “Fast 11” and “Fast X: Part 2”, is projected for release in March 2026. This is approximately three years following the debut of “Fast X”. Assuming everything goes smoothly, this could mark the final chapter for Dominic Toretto and his team, at least as a complete group. However, Ludacris hinted to Us Weekly that this might not necessarily be the end, expressing some uncertainty about the future.
I can’t discuss details about film number 11 because we don’t have any information available at this time. I’m excited to share, but all I know is that it marks the 25th anniversary since the release of the first Fast and Furious movie in 2001 – The Fast and the Furious. There are whispers of another installment, so let’s wait and see.
It seems appropriate if “Fast 11” comes out in 2026 to celebrate The Fast and the Furious’ 25th anniversary. Regarding the rumors Ludacris has heard, they probably stem from Vin Diesel hinting that the Fast Saga finale might span a trilogy. However, this didn’t turn out to be true, but as Ludacris mentioned, just because the main film series is wrapping up doesn’t mean the franchise will cease to exist altogether. In his words: “Even though the main films are ending, it doesn’t mean the entire franchise will vanish.
The franchise maintains its presence due to constant evolutions or revivals. It persists because the automobile-centric theme resonates deeply with audiences, and they identify strongly with each character, often finding themselves connected to them on a personal level.
Following the launch of “Fast X,” it emerged that Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa were slated to appear in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes.” This project was intended as a replacement for the delayed “Hobbs & Shaw 2” and would be positioned between “Fast X” and “Fast 11.” However, given that “Fast 11” is scheduled for release next year, I’m skeptical whether this project is still ongoing. Encouragingly, Zach Dean, the writer of “Fast 11,” is also reportedly penning a standalone “Fast & Furious” film. Occasionally, discussions about a female-led spinoff resurface as well.
If Ludacris isn’t privy to details about Fast 11, which is due out in less than a year, it makes me ponder if the release could be delayed again or if discussions have restarted for Fast 12. I might delve deeper into this as we move further into 2025, so let’s hope Universal Pictures offers some clarity soon. For now, you can catch up on Fast X by streaming it with your Peacock subscription – a good way to remind yourself of the ending for the 2023 Fast & Furious movie.
