Will Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Be The Franchise’s Final Film? Hayley Atwell’s Feelings Totally Mirror Mine

Without a doubt, several aspects of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” are clear. We can expect thrilling action scenes and Tom Cruise performing death-defying stunts. It’s also confirmed that he’ll be dangling from airplanes at some point. Yet, there are uncertainties regarding the film. For instance, is this going to be the last “Mission: Impossible” movie?

It appears there’s strong speculation that Tom Cruise might be concluding his role as Ethan Hunt, with the latest film’s title suggesting it could be the last installment of the series. However, Haley Atwell, who co-stars with Cruise, seems to share this view but remains uncertain, based on her recent statements to The Guardian. Atwell mentioned…

You know, The Final Reckoning is what they named it, but considering ‘Tom Cruise’ and ‘final’ are contradictory terms, it wouldn’t be unexpected if he were to say something like, “Hold on, maybe not…” Since he has a multitude of projects in the works, it seems challenging to imagine another Mission fitting into that schedule.

Occasionally, franchises hint at an “end” approaching to prepare fans for what lies ahead. At other times, it could be a strategic mislead. Unfortunately, it’s hard to discern with absolute certainty whether this is the case. Frankly, I’m not able to make that call either.

As a die-hard Mission: Impossible fan, I’ve been intrigued ever since Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie revealed their plan for two sequels in quick succession. With whispers that this could serve as the swan song for the series, they’ve skillfully kept us guessing about its conclusion. And given the ominous title of the upcoming film, it certainly hints at a potential farewell act.

Simultaneously, it’s tough to envision Tom Cruise abandoning something he takes pleasure in, particularly the Mission: Impossible film series. Should he choose to continue, there’s no doubt he will. Despite the current plan suggesting this could be the finale, a change of heart might occur later on. Even if the recent movie seems to eliminate Ethan Hunt, it’s not definitive. If the creators decide to revive him, they could easily find reasons to do so.

According to Atwell’s observation, the main challenge for future “Mission: Impossible” films could be Tom Cruise’s constant motion. With a lengthy list of upcoming films featuring Cruise, scheduling another movie in the future might prove difficult if there are no current plans for additional installments.
