heads up: details from the second episode of Will Trent‘s third season, titled “Sunny-Side Up,” might be revealing if you haven’t watched it yet. You can stream it using a Hulu subscription.
In the 2025 TV lineup, the opening episodes of Will Trent’s third season depicted the consequences of his choice at the end of Season 2, which led him to a rough, self-imposed exile in Tennessee before eventually returning to Atlanta, his job at the police department, and his formal attire. However, Angie was not part of these events initially, although it was revealed in the Season 3 premiere that she had somehow avoided jail time following her arrest by him.
In the TV show “Sunny-Side Up,” Erika Christensen had an opportunity to address an APD committee and explain why she deserved to regain her position. Her passionate speech left no doubt about her dissatisfaction with her current security job, but it remains debatable whether she should be reinstated right away for a couple of reasons.
The APD Board Made Some Valid Points
Throughout the entire episode, Angie’s troubled hearing kept her thoughts preoccupied. She even resorted to using AI technology to help her craft an apologetic speech aimed at the authorities who would determine her future with the Atlanta Police Department. The instruction she provided the tech was essentially asking it to compose a statement expressing regret for her mistakes as a police officer.
Initially, her speech seemed similar to AI-generated ones, but it was halted by the officials who lamented that they couldn’t undo the deaths of five individuals, as this isn’t a make-believe world. They further stated that her actions were reckless and demonstrated a disregard for her role.
As I listened, Angie poured out her feelings spontaneously, revealing her true emotions. Erika Christensen delivered a heart-wrenching performance, her character baring all in a desperate attempt to reclaim her position at work. In essence, she was pleading from the depths of her soul.
You are correct. My decision to become a police officer stemmed from a desire to create a safer environment for everyone, particularly those who lack the ability to protect themselves. At the time, I believed I was fulfilling this role in regards to Crystal. However, my actions were misguided. This mistake continues to haunt me. I assure you that I will not allow my past traumas to compromise my professional duties again. I take pride in being a police officer and cherish my vocation, despite its challenges. If given the opportunity, I am eager to serve once more, as I strive to be the best possible officer for the job.
To put it simply, Angie was more persuasive when she began speaking in her own words rather than relying on AI-generated phrases. Her speech is indeed a promising step towards regaining her position. However, Will Trent‘s observation that she had made significant errors also leaves me doubting whether she should easily return to her previous job solely based on a heartfelt apology and well-delivered pitch.
She made a mistake, and as a result, Season 2 concluded with a heart-wrenching cliffhanger. It would be a pity if she regained what she lost without overcoming greater challenges than just a heartfelt discussion. There’s certainly potential for exciting drama before Angie returns to APD, isn’t there?
There’s More Story In Angie’s Security Job
It turns out I made the right decision by remaining skeptical at the end of Episode 2 in Season 3 about Angie returning to work at APD, as the upcoming episode, titled “Find a New Pond,” suggests she’ll continue her job at the security post. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean her speech was without merit. In fact, hints in the preview suggest there could be an opportunity for Angie to prove that being a detective at APD brings out the best in her. Here’s a sneak peek:
It appears that John, the seemingly bumbling handyman from Episode 2, may have a hidden sinister side according to the latest promo! If Angie’s security territory is becoming a crime scene and she’s forced to confront a villain, this could be her opportunity to prove herself to the APD instead of just discussing her abilities during a hearing. The upcoming storyline doesn’t seem like it will offer much lightheartedness for at least the initial part of Season 3, but we can hope that Will and Faith bring their usual charm now that he’s returned to work with the GBI.
