William H. Macy Joins Glen Powell in ‘The Running Man’

As a lifelong fan of cinema who has witnessed the evolution of storytelling over the years, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man”. The sheer star power and the impressive lineup of talented actors, including the legendary William H. Macy, is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Actor William H. Macy is now part of the expanding ensemble for the upcoming movie version of “The Running Man,” which is being directed by Edgar Wright and produced by Paramount Pictures, based on a tale by Stephen King.

Glen Powell is listed at the top of the cast roster, alongside Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian (from ‘Love Lies Bleeding’), Lee Pace (known for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’), Michael Cera, and Emilia Jones, who starred in ‘CODA’.

In 1982, Stephen King wrote “Running Man” under the pen name Richard Bachman, and it takes place in a future America ruled by a totalitarian government that entertains its oppressed citizens through brutal reality TV shows.

The novel centered on a desperate man named Ben Richards, needing money for his sick daughter, who joins the most popular show, The Running Man, in which teams of killers hunt down contestants. The longer a contestant survives, the more money that person makes. But as the game show’s producers and killers will find out, this desperate man will break all the rules and expose the show’s dark secrets. Powell is playing Richards in this take.

Macy will play a man who assists Richards when he’s on the run.

Simultaneously, Brolin takes on the role of the merciless game show producer, O’Brian competes as one of the contestants, Pace portrays a relentless hunter pursuing Powell’s character, Cera is set to embody an innocent rebel aiming to aid the struggling man, and Jones will depict a privileged individual oblivious to the government’s oppression.

The production of this new project will kick off in London next week, and it’s slated for a release by Paramount on November 21, 2025. The trio of Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Wright will be the producers for this movie.

Macy is a seasoned actor, having been nominated for an Oscar and winning an Emmy. His diverse acting portfolio spans from Paul Thomas Anderson’s films “Boogie Nights” and “Magnolia,” to the Coen Brothers’ production “Fargo,” Disney’s comedy “Wild Hogs,” and the long-running Showtime series “Shameless.

Lately, he has been seen in the summer blockbuster “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and the Amazon Prime comedy series “Ricky Stanicky,” starring alongside Zac Efron and John Cena.
