Now that Venu Sports is dead, DirecTV thinks that it can fill the void.
The multi-channel sports streaming service, dubbed MySports, is about to be rolled out by our satellite TV provider. This innovative platform offers not only the channels you’re accustomed to from Venu, but also additional ones for an enhanced viewing experience.
Our new sports streaming service called MySports will offer the same channels as Venu and more! It’s coming soon from our satellite TV provider.
As an ardent sports enthusiast, I’ve got to confess that my excitement for MySports took a hit when I learned it sets me back a cool $70 monthly, way beyond the affordable $43 per month Venu aimed to debut with.
MySports package encompasses a variety of popular networks such as ABC, NBC, and Fox, in addition to cable stations like ESPN, TNT, TBS, USA Network, and Fox Sports 1. Furthermore, it offers specialized sports channels such as NFL Network, NBA TV, and MLB Network. In total, over 40 channels will be made available.
Notably, it will not include CBS, or any other channels owned by Paramount Global.
Bill Morrow, CEO of DIRECTV, stated that the arrival of MySports provides consumers more freedom, adaptability, and power to choose their desired content at an affordable price. This is merely the beginning; we’re planning to roll out additional genre-focused options in the upcoming months, aiming to create a more luminous TV experience for our consumers.
The new service has been introduced not long after DirecTV finalized a comprehensive agreement with The Walt Disney Company, an arrangement that opened the door for specialized channels such as MySports. Any sports-focused TV service must include ESPN, which is also set to debut its own consumer-direct service later this year.
Initially, MySports is set to debut in 24 regions, encompassing cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area, with additional locations joining soon after.
DirecTV says it will launch other genre-specific offerings in the coming months.
