As a passionate follower of the literary and media world, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing the news of Charlotte Simms and Mary Pender joining WME! With their extensive backgrounds in scripted TV, media rights, and literary scouting, these two powerhouses are set to make waves in the industry.
WME is strengthening its Literature Division by adding two new team members, and expanding our presence in the prominent talent agencies’ offices in New York City and London.
On Monday, it was announced that Charlotte Simms, previously in charge of scripted TV initiatives at BuzzFeed Studios, and Mary Pender, an experienced media rights representative from UTA, have now both joined the ranks of WME, a company owned by Endeavor.
I’ve made the move to William Morris Endeavor (WME) after spending nearly eight years at BuzzFeed’s studio division. As BuzzFeed sought to create and market popular projects to networks using its internal intellectual property, we even secured a first-look deal with Universal Television in 2020. Now, I’ll be stationed in Beverly Hills at WME, dedicating my efforts to acquiring rights for non-fiction content, such as articles and podcasts.
After nine years at UTA, Pender is moving to WME’s New York office. At UTA, they represented authors like Angie Thomas, Dhonielle Clayton, Casey McQuiston, and Emily Henry, and were involved in projects for film and TV such as “The Hate U Give” and “Red, White and Royal Blue”. Pender previously worked at WME in their Book department and spent ten years as a literary scout at Maria B. Campbell Associates before this.
Moving forward, I’m packing up and hopping across the pond, from sunny Beverly Hills to bustling London. As a gaming enthusiast who works as a literary packaging agent for WME, my goal is to grow our agency’s footprint in this exciting region.
“Sylvie Rabineau and Hilary Zaitz Michael, heads of WME’s Literary Media Department, expressed their enthusiasm as we experience remarkable organic growth within our division. We are thrilled to welcome Mary and Charlotte to our team at a moment when the demand for top-notch, premium Intellectual Property (IP) is escalating in both traditional and emerging platforms,” stated the duo.
“Pender expressed his excitement about embarking on a new professional journey with a team he’s always respected,” he said. “Going back to WME to contribute to the growth of LMD in New York feels like a significant milestone and a full-circle moment for me.”
Simms added, “It’s a huge privilege to be joining this incredible team of WME agents.”
