As someone who’s been bitten by the horror bug ever since my childhood nights spent huddled under the covers while watching Universal Monsters classics, I can hardly contain my excitement for Leigh Whannell’s latest offering – the tantalizingly titled Wolf Man! Four years after his brilliant reimagining of The Invisible Man, Whannell is back on track with another iconic creature feature.
Four years after his triumph with “The Invisible Man”, writer-director Leigh Whannell is once again hopping on board the Universal Monsters bandwagon, as seen in the initial teaser for “Wolf Man”. This modern adaptation revisits the timeless wolf tale, making it contemporary. The monster movie is the latest horror production from the iconic studio and Blumhouse, marking another collaboration between these giants of the genre.
Christopher Abbott takes the lead as Blake, a San Francisco resident who acquires his rural childhood home in Oregon following his father’s unexplained disappearance. Yearning for some tranquility amidst urban chaos, Blake persuades his busy wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner from “Ozark”), and their daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth from “Hullraisers”), to join him at the property for a brief retreat.
As they reach the farmhouse late at night, the family encounters an unknown beast that attacks them. In a panic, they seal themselves inside the dwelling while the creature circles around it. Strangely, as the hours pass, Blake undergoes a bizarre transformation, becoming something unfamiliar to Charlotte. She must then make a tough choice: whether the horror within their home poses a greater threat than the danger lurking outside.
