As an old-school gamer who grew up on a steady diet of classic horror movies, I can hardly contain my excitement for Leigh Whannell’s upcoming reboot of “Wolf Man.” With a career that started with writing scripts for “Saw” and “Insidious,” it seems Whannell has finally found the perfect vehicle to unleash his love for all things werewolf.

Beware, Brundlefly! In the upcoming “Wolf Man”, directed by Leigh Whannell, you may encounter a formidable opponent when it comes to werewolves.

At the New York Comic Con on Friday, the trailer for the upcoming film dropped, and it feels like a chilling nod to the masterful Cronenberg. It hints at a terrifying werewolf contagion that’s more like a degenerative disease, ravaging bodies and transforming minds into raw, primal instincts. I, as the protagonist portrayed by the talented Christopher Abbott (known for his Golden Globe-nominated role in “Poor Things”), seem to be in quite a state, mirroring Jeff Goldblum’s tormented scientist from “The Fly” as my hair falls out, fingernails disintegrate, and grip on human speech weakens at an unsettling pace.

In the recent edition of Empire magazine, Abbott expresses, “We aimed to emphasize the heartache of a situation where you’re leading an ordinary life with your companion, and suddenly, you lose it, much like Alzheimer’s might take it away.” This theme inspired our concept of transforming into a wolf.

Speaking about the 2020 remake of The Invisible Man, Whannell explained, “The original script was more sci-fi action oriented. However, I had been immersed in domestic thrillers at the time I wrote it because I adore that genre. Essentially, I wanted to create something that is purely horror.

What is Wolf Man about?

In modern times, Universal’s timeless horror film “The Wolfman” (1941) is reimagined as “Wolf Man.” This new story revolves around Blake (Christopher Abbott), a family man from San Francisco who is fighting to save his marriage. With divorce looming, he makes an effort by persuading his career-driven wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner of “Ozark”), to escape the city’s chaos and visit Blake’s father’s secluded estate in Oregon, accompanied by their daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth from “Coma”).

As the family makes their way towards the farmhouse under the cover of darkness, they’re suddenly ambushed by an unknown beast. In a panic, they hastily fortify themselves inside the dwelling while the creature circles around it. The story unfolds as night turns into day, revealing that Blake undergoes a bizarre transformation, becoming something alarmingly unfamiliar. This leaves Charlotte in a tough predicament as she must decide whether the horror within their home poses a greater threat than the danger lurking outside.

I’m thrilled to be part of this enthusiast community where we discuss our favorite actors! In my world, Sam Jaeger from The Handmaid’s Tale, Ben Prendergast from The Sojourn Audio Drama, Benedict Hardie from The Invisible Man, newcomer Zac Chandler, Beatriz Romilly known for her role in Shortland Street, and the talented Milo Cawthorne also from Shortland Street, make up the main cast. Each one brings something unique to their roles, making every scene captivating!
