Lately, Armie Hammer has embarked on a journey of transparency, sharing intimate details about himself in an effort to dispel any misinformation that may circulate about him. The actor, whose career faced setbacks due to allegations of abuse made by several women, had those accusations dropped for lack of substantial evidence, paving the way for his return to the spotlight. In a unique approach, he’s using podcasts – his own or others – to reveal aspects of himself that others might choose to keep hidden. His latest revelation? A story about his past attempts to form romantic connections with men.
During a recent episode of his podcast named HammerTime, Hammer, who is well-known for his role in the critically acclaimed movie Call Me By Your Name, confessed that he attempted to pursue a relationship with another man once. However, things didn’t go as expected. He found it amusing and explained that his curiosity was piqued because he thought, “You know what? Like, women are too much trouble.” Given his past experiences with women and the public fallout they caused for him, one might expect him to be more cautious about his comments in this regard.
From there, he detailed further why he wanted to dabble with the same sex:
It appears as though some men who identify as gay have an effortless social life. For instance, imagine being at a restaurant, and suddenly your phone is flooded with messages, many of which are from Grindr, a dating app popular among the gay community. One message might read, ‘I’m at the same restaurant. Fancy meeting up in the restroom?’ To which you might respond, ‘I’ll be back in a few minutes.’ After stepping away and meeting someone, you return and wonder, ‘What just happened?’ This experience made me think, perhaps this method of meeting people could work for me too.
Armie Hammer Did Try A Random Hook-Up With a Handsome Frenchman
For the uninitiated, Grindr is a popular dating app primarily utilized for casual meetings rather than formal dates such as going to the cinema. When Hammer opted to use this platform, he encountered an attractive French man and chose to experiment with the spontaneous connection with another man. The actor expressed, “I was thinking, ‘This might work. This might work. Let’s give it a shot.’ I recall kissing him. And I just remember thinking, ‘Manly beards. I understand why women appreciate it when you shave. This is incredibly rough.’
Later, Hammer explained that despite attempting to make something more out of their chance meeting, he was unable due to a lack of appreciation for the man’s presence, which hindered him from feeling attracted.
I wrapped my arms around him, and I exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness! His shoulders are so broad. He’s such a giant. It feels strange, almost as if he’s just as tall as me. Nevertheless, our physical interaction had no effect on me; not even a shiver…Then, I recollected, as we were getting more intimate, it was becoming increasingly passionate. However, I felt detached, like I was simply going through the motions…As he tried to grab my private parts, I made it clear, ‘You’re not going to touch my soft penis.’
There’s often a place for sincerity like this, yet his narrative delivery is quite uncomfortable – it’s as if he’s overcompensating to demonstrate his heterosexuality. If this is his strategy for professional reinvention, more power to him, but it does seem an unusual path to take. However, it doesn’t appear that he yearns to revisit the mainstream roles he played in films like The Social Network and The Man From U.N.C.L.E., so perhaps this approach gives him the attention he seeks.
After allegations were made against him, Hammer’s career in Hollywood effectively ended, causing him to lose roles in productions like the movie “Shotgun Wedding” starring Jennifer Lopez and the behind-the-scenes series “The Offer,” based on “The Godfather”. Now that he has been exonerated, it seems his interest lies only in discussing cannibalism and BDSM. As a result, he has been linked to lesser-known roles, such as a film titled “Frontier Crucible” co-starring William H. Macy.
