I discovered author Alina Khawaja through her first book, “Maya’s Laws of Love“. This entertaining romance piqued my interest and prompted me to delve deeper into her works, leading me to select “Writing Mr. Right” for reading.
One aspect that truly captivated me in “Maya’s Laws of Love” was witnessing the development and growth of our characters as the story unfolded. When I embarked on “Writing Mr. Right,” I anticipated a similar journey, but this time with an unexpected twist.
Before delving into my critique, let me point out that the work incorporates elements of magical realism and a touch of fantastical narrative. If you’re not drawn to such themes or haven’t enjoyed Ashley Poston’s more recent publications, this one might not be for you.
If you’re fond of that type of writing and enjoy stories centered around authors, you’re in for a treat. I’d like to express my gratitude to Mira for providing me with an advanced reading copy, enabling me to share my thoughts on it with everyone here.
Writing Mr. Right takes you on an unexpectedly emotional journey.
By day, I’m a diligent lawyer at a bustling firm, but come nightfall, I transform into a passionate writer, laboring over my novel. However, both careers seem to be falling short in their own ways. My unwavering commitment to work leaves me with little time for friendships and even less for enjoying a proper meal during the day. Upon returning home, I pour my heart out onto paper, only to receive rejections from agents who find my novel’s stakes insufficiently high.
One evening, she reaches a point where she feels overwhelmed with writing and her novel, and decides to call it quits. The following day, she encounters someone named Aashiq, who turns out to be an inspiration for her writing and aids her in rekindling her passion for literature. When his task is complete, he disappears, leaving only memories within the protagonist’s mind, Ziya. Initially, having Aashiq in her thoughts doesn’t seem so burdensome.
In contrast to Ziya’s hesitance, Aashiq emerges as a lively, cheerful, and compassionate influence in her life. Not surprisingly, they find themselves spending a great deal of time together, eventually developing feelings for one another. However, there’s an issue: once Ziya rekindles her passion for writing and completes her upcoming novel, Aashiq will depart from her life.
As a cinephile, I’m eager to share my thoughts on this unique movie that weaves an element of fantasy. Without spoiling the plot, let me say it was a delightful experience! The concept was ingeniously executed, particularly in portraying Aashiq’s perspective, who had never known anything beyond Ziya’s mind. It was captivating to witness his journey through the world, as he was like a wide-eyed traveler discovering new lands.
On the other hand, it was equally intriguing to observe Ziya’s transformation. She had been existing on autopilot, but Aashiq provided the spark that ignited her true potential. It was heartening to see her grow and embrace her destiny. All in all, this film offered a fresh take on reality, and I can’t wait to revisit it!
The love story between Ziya and Aashiq is tinged with sweetness and sadness because we’re aware of what lies ahead. Yet, despite this, they make a conscious effort to enjoy their time together. They experience things Aashiq has long desired, engage in novel experiences, and even visit Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Rest assured, they leave before the ball drops.
For the second time, Alina Khawaja’s work has won my affection. I found this book delightful! What makes her stories special is the abundance of Muslim characters in romance novels, which are not common. Fortunately, you can now purchase your personal copy of “Writing Mr. Right” since it’s available for sale at bookstores everywhere.
