WWE Might Change Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania 41 Plans Following Fan Backlash

There’s buzz that a shakeup for WrestleMania 41 might be on the horizon, and interestingly, The Rock won’t be part of it this time around. With fewer WWE events planned before the Las Vegas two-night spectacular, there are whispers that Drew McIntyre’s future could see some changes.

At the Royal Rumble event, potential matches for WrestleMania 41 were hinted at, sparking excitement among fans about seeing stars like Alexa Bliss and Liv Morgan square off. However, some fans are less enthused about the match-ups that seem to be planned for others, including McIntyre. The proposed plans for him have caused such a strong negative reaction from fans that the WWE is reconsidering its strategy for him at WrestleMania 41.

The WWE Is Allegedly Looking Into Altering Drew McIntyre’s Plans For WrestleMania 41

Online wrestling insider @chrisprolific claims discussions are underway about potentially modifying Drew McIntyre’s current WrestleMania 41 plan. After a major clash during the Royal Rumble, it was believed that Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest would face off, but there are whispers that the WWE may be considering a different matchup instead.

In general, rumors found online about professional wrestling should be taken as speculative at most. Throughout my career covering pro wrestling, I’ve discovered that dirt sheets and insiders are least reliable during WrestleMania season. It wouldn’t shock me if the rumor about Drew McIntyre proves true. Despite an impressive year marked by title loss, Money In The Bank win, and a memorable match with CM Punk, a feud with Damian Priest seems like an odd payoff for his hard work.

Fans Have Pushed For WWE To Alter Course With The #WeWantDrew Movement

In my humble opinion, it’s not just me who feels that Drew is being underserved in terms of WrestleMania 41 opponents. The passion of the fans is reminiscent of the campaign for Cody Rhodes to receive a worthy Mania match, and now, they’ve initiated the #WeWantDrew movement. Here are some of the buzzing sentiments I’m seeing on social media:

1. “Come on WWE, give Drew his due at WrestleMania! He deserves a great opponent.” – @WrestlingFan123
2. “If we don’t get #WeWantDrew right this year, I might just boycott WrestleMania!” – @RandyTheRambler
3. “Enough with the same old faces! It’s time for Drew to shine at WrestleMania 41.” – @WrestlingGuru
4. “Let’s make #WeWantDrew trend worldwide and show WWE that we want more for Drew this year!” – @FightNightFanatic
5. “Drew has earned his spot, give him a worthy opponent at WrestleMania 41! #WeWantDrew” – @WrestlingBuzz

  • This guy. He’s worked so hard and sacrificed so much. He deserves better than to be pushed aside for the underserving “flavour of the month”. @DMcIntyreWWE #WeWantDrew – @SpurrellPaul
  • Everyone is likely getting their deserving matches at WM 41, but despite his incredible work in 2024, Drew McIntyre is still fighting for the moment he’s earned. With his reinvention and top performances, he deserves a bigger spotlight. #WeWantDrew – @_db_boss_
  • since we know Triple H reads social media, #WeWantDrew – @Paivaisms
  • Seeing so many people defending @DMcIntyreWWE is heartwarming. He’s such a fantastic performer, and has given up so much – he deserves something for all his work. #WeWantDrew – @Whiteboardpoets

Although I don’t believe that Drew McIntyre battling Damian Priest is as dismal as some are suggesting, I do concur that his path since his significant return after Hell In A Cell has been somewhat inconsistent. McIntyre deserves a spot at the negotiating table for a match of high caliber, like the one reportedly being prepared for wrestlers such as CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns. If Jey Uso can triumph in the Royal Rumble, then surely McIntyre could be steered towards a contest with some genuine consequences instead of just another vendetta.

In the midst of everything going on, it appears that Drew McIntyre is aiming his challenges towards L.A. Knight. Previously crowned world champion, he made a jab at the former U.S. champion during X, which could indicate changes in WWE’s strategies for him.

In my opinion, transitioning from Damian Priest to L.A. Knight might be seen as a move sideways for Drew McIntyre, but there could be more depth to this than just a singles rivalry. Time will tell if he gets a match that matches the stellar year he’s had as one of the top performers on the brand.

Make certain to watch Monday Night Raw on Netflix every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Given that there might be alterations in Drew’s narrative arc, it seems likely that we’ll witness a shift in the storyline’s direction soon. I find myself wondering which storyline they could slot him into and who would make an excellent adversary for him.
