The enigmatic upcoming film by Steven Spielberg is being tightly guarded, much like a classified government project. However, an exciting development has occurred regarding Spielberg’s latest extraterrestrial venture. Known for his portrayal of Captain America in the miniseries “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Wyatt Russell, a popular Marvel Cinematic Universe actor, is reportedly joining Spielberg’s as-yet-unnamed movie.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Russell’s spouse and fellow actor Meredith Hagner, who also stars with him in the romantic comedy “You’re Cordially Invited”, disclosed that Russell will be involved in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi project. Hagner discussed their acting roles together in a comedy featuring Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, as well as managing their personal lives alongside their careers in the entertainment industry. Furthermore, she shared that Russell is set to collaborate with Spielberg imminently.
In simpler terms, we alternate between taking on projects. For instance, I worked on a project, then he did one, and it goes back and forth. Recently, it was my turn to work while he took care of the babies. Then, I mentioned that there’s this small role in a movie, which is quite significant, as it’s for Mr. Hollywood. I said, “It’s my movie,” meaning it’s one of mine, along with Reese and Will.
Instead of urging him, I essentially convinced him to help out, as they were in need and he was around. He ended up taking the role, shaving a mutton chop beard for it, and then appeared briefly, which is quite amusing. Despite having a major role coming up with Steven Spielberg next week, he graciously offered us just a second of his precious time on this project.
Russell’s upcoming major venture involves the MCU film “Thunderbolts”, where he will once again embody the U.S. Agent character. The production of this movie is currently undergoing post-production and is slated for release on May 2, 2025. At present, no further projects have been disclosed for Kurt Russell’s son in the acting field; however, he is expected to appear in Season 2 of Apple’s Monsterverse TV series, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”.
Spielberg’s Return to the Alien Subgenre Is Exciting
Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie, slated for release in May 2026, is being categorized as an “alien” flick that promises to reconnect him with his roots in Hollywood. At present, there are no other films on Spielberg’s schedule, implying Wyatt Russell may be joining the star-studded cast already attached to this project, which includes Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, and others. The specific roles these actors will play in the film are yet to be disclosed.
The upcoming movie will be penned by David Koepp, who has previously worked on the screenplay for “Jurassic Park” and more recently, adapted Steven Spielberg’s take on H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds.” Interestingly, Koepp is back in the world of dinosaurs, as he has written the script for the latest installment in the Jurassic franchise titled “Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Stealthily, Steven Spielberg is keeping his move back into science fiction under wraps, yet given his past masterpieces like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, our anticipation can’t help but surge, despite not knowing whether aliens will be portrayed as friends or foes in this new venture. Perhaps the less celebrated War of the Worlds might offer a clue, but for now, we eagerly await more details.
